Removing a2 pawn might reduce draw rate slightly.

This odds is considered almost even, just marginally better for black.

So many electrons will suffer. But it is some great chess.

It could be a very long time before one of them gets anything but a draw.

Game 21 - an interesting battle, but another draw.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 21

In a Kings Indian Saemisch, Houdini pushes ahead in the centre, while Komodo goes for queenside expansion. There follows a mass of exchanges followed by a few small tactical nuances before things settle down in a drawish endgame. Still quite an interesting watch though. Houdini leads by +1 =20 -0.

Game 22 - a more sedate affair and a further draw.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 22

The return game is a more sedate affair initially, then gets more interesting later in the middlegame, when Komodo tries to put pressure on the kingside. After the queens come off, the resulting rook and pawns ending is eventually drawn. Houdini leads by +1 =21 -0.

Game 23 - interesting transition from middlegame into ending

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 23

In a Semi-Slav, Komodo ends up with an IQP, but has control over the e4 square and Houdini's backward d-pawn as compensation. The switch from middlegame into a drawn endgame has its interesting moments. Houdini still with the narrowest of leads at +1 =22 -0.

Game 24 - exciting middlegame prior to drawn ending.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 24

A rather exciting middlegame occurred, in which all of the pieces bar a pair of opposite coloured bishops came off the board.
Amazing really that we've only had one decisive games out of the 24 so far. Easily the tightest 8 core match I've run that I can recall. Houdini leads by +1 =23 -0.

Game 25 - drawn. Houdini leads by +1 =24 -0

GAME 25

Not too much to get excited about in this Slav, as Komodo holds the draw fairly effortlessly as black. Houdini leads by +1 =24 -0.

Game 26 - Komodo draws level with win in endgame.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 26

Komodo draws level with its first win!
Nothing much seems to be happening as the rooks come off along the c-file and then all the other pieces come off except a pair of same coloured bishops. However, this proves to be a won endgame for Komodo. The match score is now +1 =24 -1.

Game 27 - interesting game in which the edge turns, but draw

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 27

In a 1.d4 d5; 2.Bg5 line, Houdini advances on the kingside, only for Komodo to make this interesting there. Houdini then advances on the queenside to try and create a diversion on that side of the board. Komodo thinks it now has a tiny edge, but Houdini sacs the exchange to go into a drawn ending. The match score is +1 =25 -1.
