Yes, if you look at the total image from the WCCC 1986 round 5 showdown from Ed's page, Nona - Cyrus 68K is the fifth table (board) from top, while Vaxchess - Chat is table 4. Parallax error.

OK, the answer is probably here : http://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com/Vaxchess .

I am not sure any longer. I think Vaxchess is on the table behind, and that this is the round 5 game Nona vs. Cyrus 68K (if you look at the program name labels at the table). Isn't it the young Frans Morsch and Hans van der Zijden? The black h-pawn moved in this game as well.

Ed or Thorsten, can you help us?

Thanks,
Gerd
Yes Gerd, those are Frans & Hans although the flag doesn't match.

Yep, so the guy standing between Frans and Hans is one of the Vaxchess team. Do you know (or anybody else) whether he may be Tony Guilfoyle or Richard Hooker? The guy sitting behind Frans with the phone is likely Wolfgang Delmare of Chat. In the background standing Richard Lang. This is real criminological work ;-)

I really can't remember, all those faces were new for me. Richard of course is correct, the commentator Mike Valvo.

ed is the young nice looking guy next to louwmann. it seems this is really ages away. i remember that i was there and together with my friend siggi schuette (the later saitek chess development manager :-)
we helped css to make the bulletin each day.
matthias wuellenweber had a new software made for atari ST, the chess base program. and we went onto the stage, took the notation (game score) from the participants and hacked them into the atari ST.
then we printed it out on paper. took glue and scissors and made 1 master copy of the bulletin. then siggi schuette convinced rank xerox that it would be a good advertising thing to copy the master-bulletin for all participants. so they did.

it was often a tough job to find out what the hand written game-score really was. often participants did not really write down the letters accurate enough for others to read or identify the right letters.

there also was a talk show with ephraim kishon (who also visited the event).

i was there , but i never saw myself on a picture.
i was 19 or 20 in 1986.
my heroes were all there at the tournament.
i remember that thomas nitsche also was there one day.
he held a speech about his efforts in tree search when i remember it right.
