Really surprising Critter is performing really bad but it's too early

Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON
At this writing it is +35 over Houdini 2, a respectible gain for a year though less than predicted. Of course this could still change quite a bit. It's good enough for me to buy a copy myself, I often want two opinions (Komodo and Houdini) of a position. If the gain stays around this level, I think Komodo will catch it in a few months, as we are now on a par with Houdini 2.

Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON
I think it is very good for someone who did not have Houdini 2, to get Houdini 3. But for someone who did get houdini 2, it may be better to be satisfied with what he has, for now. I..... do not have Hooudini 2.
Still, if it turns out to be only +35 elo over previous, then I'm not so sure that it won't equalled or overtaken in less than a year. But if it was +80 elo, then i would say EVERYONE should get it now, if he wants playing strength, and it may last for 2 years in first place (only under Houdini 4).

Actually you are 100+ Elo behind Houdini 2 becuase you don't have SMP.lkaufman wrote:At this writing it is +35 over Houdini 2, a respectible gain for a year though less than predicted. I think that +35 in a year for Komodo is not difficult, if Larry has enough time to work on the search/evaluation and positional weights and patterns he can reach, imo, more than 40 elo.
Yes, +80 would be a terrible shot for the competitors, but honestly i think h3 will stop its run many elos before.
Best Regards

Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON
+42 now, after 1,000 games. Don't forget that the final result is calculated with Bayeselo and could be off the value against the average (as it is estimated now). And H3 perfoms ~80 points above K5 in the direct match. If these numbers will stay, I don't see Komodo "catching in a few months".lkaufman wrote:At this writing it is +35 over Houdini 2, a respectible gain for a year though less than predicted.
