actually i gave that same advice to Houdart a month or so ago when his first product went commercial
Following the Rajlich playbook...
you go commercial when the engine is rated #1
at the same time you start your own forum
moderators are appointed who will ban/delete posts threads that are not in the commercial interests of the engine
many will join the forum because it is #1
once the members are settled in..they will develop a sense of community and they themselves will deal with any criticism of the engine in any of the other forums
Houdini will then be on autopilot and its author will not have to deal with these types of issues any longer
finally..the author can leave the country and relocate anywhere in the world he so chooses..leaving his forum and his cares behind him

the world will be his Oyster regards

Of course I realise that is the way of persons who have never served to be generous in their criticisms. I note the moderator comments with interest.

This place is not some place where members can be prevented from speaking their minds on issues which interest them and Houdini interests them. Let it not be said that here is no publicity and it is all free....

I mentioned the derailment but frankly, your point that persons seem obsessed with you and your engine seems to be true.

So Talkchess moderators are unable to stop obsessed people from infesting a topic as simple as a product announcement?
And the only solution is to ask the victims of the harassment to move to their own forum, instead of preventing the offenders from pursuing their obsession?
That's a rather epic fail of the moderation effort here .

you know you are doing a good job as moderator Roger when on the one hand you defend the right to have the announcement thread(ticking off one group of members) and on the other hand you defend the right to have posts criticizing the engine (ticking off the other group of members)

Why not? The question is perfectly valid and not out of the ordinary. If one sees this forum as a place to make a buck, be prepared to answer a simple question. It is give and take. Not take take take.
