Hi Sven,

the whole idea is to get each team to have one engine from the upper half of the rankings table and one engine from the lower half of the table. I thought that this would make the tournament more interesting.
I had to readjust the combined total ceiling because somebody chose two engines from the lower half of the table.
I've run about three of these tournaments here before, but they seemed much more popular than this time.

Cheers,
Graham.

That's why I wrote about having a maximum and also a minimum value for the total team elo.

So how would you like to proceed? I don't think it is less popular this time, maybe people are just waiting for the TD to adjust the rules, since with the current limit it is not possible to get a valid and complete setup.

I would certainly try to be one of the next members to select a team ...

Yes - you're correct.
I'm now putting the combined total up to 4473 for the last three teams.

Cheers,
Graham.

One team left!

Post by Graham Banks »

Who'd like to take the final team of ECE 11.01 and Poor Little Pinkus 1661571?

No problem.
btw. I wrote a tool which can solve minimum combined elo for a set of engines (max 32, count must be even).
It took a few minutes to solve the initial list but the output is as follows:

bestvalue: 4461
best pairing:
Jazz 444 32-bit + Protej 0.5.7 (4457 combined)
ECE 11.01 + Jabba 1.0 (4447 combined)
FireFly 2.5.10 + PLP 1661571 (4435 combined)
KMTChess 1.2.1 32-bit + BikJump 2.01 (4461 combined)
Chesley r323 + Carballo 0.5 32-bit (4456 combined)
Parrot 07.07.22 + Kurt 0.9.2 32-bit (4460 combined)
Prophet 2.0 + Ice 0.1 (4444 combined)
Clarabit 1.00 + Bubble 1.5 (4401 combined)

The "best pairing" is actually a proof that it's possible to combine engines using bestvalue as a limit.
It's not as much fun as choosing by hand but it might be useful to determine the lower bound of a combined elo so that the problem is still solvable. I can upload it if You/someone would be interested (including sources and examples of course).
