Normally I add the time control as part of the event name.

[Event "Rybka vs IvanHoe 40+0"]
[Site "WIN7-D100"]
[Date "2010.01.28"]
[Round "16"]
[White "IvanHoe 9.70b x64"]
[Black "Rybka 3"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[ECO "B20"]
[Annotator "0.16;0.06"]
[PlyCount "214"]
[TimeControl "2400"]

just my personal preference, but i preferr increments, provided IH has the knowledge to manage them properly (i believe it does, though maybe not as well as rybka). this avoids time scrabbles which will favor the faster engine (ivanhoe) & gives a better idea of strength from an analysis perspective.

IvanHoe Time Management needs more work, it does not manage time as well as Rybka at all. And I believe it accounts for many losses it has in long time controls. It's a work in progress...just a matter of time. :)

rybka has probably the best time management of any engine i've yet seen, however. this seems to have only improved w/ rybka 4 based on the cluster games posted. she manages time very much as a human would, giving many minutes to complex positions and making up for it by taking little time on simple ones. not sure how vas does it.

i agree though that, from my own experience with the engines, with proper clock management ivanhoe should be stronger on anything 40/40 or less. this is unless i am underestimating its supposed lack of knowledge wrt R3, which i've not actually seen demonstrated concretely in terms of positions.

Did you uncheck «AlwaysAnalyse» checkbox :?:
The fact is that IvanHoe 70b has this option enabled by default - this was made for analysis purposes not for engines play :!:

By default it is unchecked, but I checked it. I will run some more tournaments.
