Thoughts about the field in this division

Post by Graham Banks »

I'm looking forward to Division 1 more keenly this time due to the introduction of some strong new engines.

Stockfish 1.5.1 seems to be the strongest entrant in the field, but I expect that it will be a close run thing as on previous occasions.

Protector 1.3.0 is purported to be very strong. Whether or not it can surpass Stockfish 1.5.1 or Thinker 5.4c Inert remains to be seen, but it should be interesting.

Likewise Doch 09.980 could surprise. Although the 32-bit version is supposedly a lot weaker than the 64-bit version, nobody knows just how good it is yet. I predict that it will finish in the top five.

Grapefruit 1.0 still seems to be best Fruit/Toga family representative and should also finish amongst the top group, as on previous occasions.

Spark 0.3 replaces Bright 0.4a and because it is probably of similar strength, I think it will finish just outside the big five previously mentioned.

A second group of closely matched engines will probably emerge further back, with Twisted Logic 20090922, Frenzee Feb08, Booot 4.15.0 and Delfi 5.4 jockeying for positions.

Cyrano 0.6b17 and the automatically promoted Hamsters 0.7.1 will likely be the strugglers in the field.

The fun in a 44 round tournament is that things don't always go according to expectations. :P

Interesting tournament, Graham, with the new engines Doch and Spark and a new version of Protector.

Yes - I wonder whether or not any further development is happening with Thinker.

Cheers,
Graham.

I can check the situation the hard way like I did with Thinker 5.4D,but it's not ethical at all as far as I'm concerned
Will not do regards,
