a quick question
in the starting position can White/Black Castle king side if the Knight moves to say d3(d6)?
if so then the King and rook move two squares and the King sits on f1(f8)?
just not totally sure of the castling rules

black castles by moving the king from d8-g8, and white castled the other side by moving d1-c1

i see ..so all of the black pieces need to be vacated from the castling path before Black can move the K and R to rest in a normal castled position
and White also is in a normal castled position on the Queenside
Thanks

Yes, that is the key - when castling happens, the pieces end up in the same positions as they would in normal chess
