Movei vs Lemming (Game 15)
16...Rxf6? Bad positional play, white will take advantage on the center by playing e4 next. Black's pieces are undeveloped on the queen side, so Rxf6 is not too good.
Hint: Obvious move for all human players, exf6! positionally good.
(KeyWord: Space advantage, Kinds of Centre,Piece Activity)
21. Bf8? Lemming doesn't seem comfortable with taking any kind of risks, it is too materialistic, doesn't think of sacrificing the pawns in compensation for good position, positionally.
Hint:b6. Frees up the Queen which looks mostly inactive.
Good moves:
17.... dxe4
Somewhat understands the kinds of centre.
Pro Deo vs Lemming (Game 16)
13...Bxd4?? Dangerous to take up that pawn, you may have a material gain but positionally it is quite dangerous because after white plays 0-0-0, it will have a strong semi open file on "D" file and it will control that file with a rook, and black king is not yet castled.
Hint: Nd7 and castle on the queen side.
(KeyWord: Open files and Diagonals, Kinds of Centre)
18...e5? Slow development without strong defense.
Hint: Nd7.
(KeyWord:Attack of the king(Defense, Counter attack, prophylaxis))
25. Rh5?? Unneccessary Rook Move. I'm beginning to think that Lemming doesn't play well with Rooks, It doesn't yet understand where to place Rooks that is positionally sensible.
(KeyWord: Unnecessary Rook Move)
Good Moves:
21...c3. Understands Positional sacrifice.
(sacrifice of pawn, piece, exchange)
(KeyWord: Positional sacrifice.
(sacrifice of pawn, piece, exchange) )

Re: LearningLemming 0.30X Gauntlet - 40/40 Repeating
Lemming vs Movei (Game 19)
17.e5? It becomes isolated, And the black plays Nd7, pushes up the queen side pawns to create a strong centre.
(KeyWord: Isolated Pawns, Pawn Centre)
Hint: Rfb1 Connecting Rooks-batteries.
22. Nd1?
(Unneccessary Knight-backward move.)
25-28 Unnecessary Rooks moves. Reduce the number of these waiting moves and it would perform better.
Good Moves:
10.f5. Moving the pawn to create weaknesses around the Black's centre.
Game 23:
16...Nxe4 combination error. Disadvantageous Sacrifice)
Hint: Nc6.
(KeyWord: Piece Activity, Bad way of Maneuvering in equal position)
21....Be6? Limits the mobility of undeveloped pieces on Queen side.
Hint: Nd7 Knight needs to be developed first, Knight will have more activity than Bishop in this position.
(KeyWord: Choice of Bishop/Knight)
It plays rather poor in open position, this game is good example to illustrate this.
Good Moves:
31...Rd8. Sometimes it understands how to place the Rook in good files, especially the same file where the opponent king is located at the opposite end.

It looks like I haven't filtered out the Blitz games, I have run 2 tournaments under the same name, so I will not comment on blitz games and instead comment on the longer Time control games.

Re: LearningLemming 0.30X Gauntlet - 40/40 Repeating
Frequency of Error noticed from previous Games:
Cons:
!1. Lemming doesn't seem to make better use of its own pieces especially when lauching the king side attack. Piece Activity and Mobility of Pieces needs to be further improved.
(Example: Game 53)
!!2. Makes frequent unneccessary backward movement with its own pieces, especially moves that are computer like and is hard to fathom.
Game 53.
! 3.Plays very defensive instead of giving up material(usually pawn) in compensation for a good position.
!!! 4.Doesn't especially play well with Rook. It just moves in and placed it in some random position as long as the eval doesn't show too much fluctuations.
Game 59
! 5.Lemming doesn't understand how and when to handle the Rook pawn on the castled side. It just pushes up that pawn on 3rd rank when it could push up 2 steps forward to launch an attack.
Game: 47
!! 6.Pawn Structures: Isolated pawns, Weak Pawns, Backward pawns, Centre pawns, Connected pawns need to be fully improved, It does understand some pawn structures, but it certainly doesn't understand some others.
!! Also how to handle the pawn cover of the king.
(Game: 64)
!!! 7. Weak and Strong Squares need to improved.
(Example: Game 53)
Pros:
1.Understands Positional Sacrifice pretty well!
2.Understands Tempo and its consequences. Differentiates well between good tempo and tempo that backfires.
3. Understands when and how to trade pieces depending upon its evaluation.
[To be continued....]
Cons:
Code: Select all
! Critical
!! Moderately Critical
!!! Severely Critical.

Very useful summary! Keep up the good work. You are tempting me to put off multithreading support and just spend a couple months really working on positional stuff as it relates to eval/search. Its becoming clear LearningLemming has some very serious weaknesses that probably need to be addressed at least to some extent before public release

You're welcome, Sam. I will try to complete the whole thing not later than tomorrow, I have a free time in the weekend, so. Interesting I notice the common errors in each games, I will try to find out if there are more of these in remaining games...BubbaTough wrote:Very useful summary! Keep up the good work. Re: LearningLemming 0.30X Gauntlet - 40/40 Repeating
I will look into errors first in the lost games, then I'd go back finding it in drawn games and I'd list them according to the frequency of errors overall.BubbaTough wrote:When you say complete the whole thing, I assume you mean looking at all loses, and skipping all wins and draws.I will try to complete the whole thing not later than tomorrow

Then I could go back to finding the "Pros" in the winning games, that way it is easier to find.
If I try to comment on games in sequential order, It will only get confusing, because later I'll have to look into every single game all over again to see where the frequent error is. It's difficult to finish them all in the weekdays becuse I do have a full time job as well, so will have to wait until I get time to finish them in the weekends

I have them all categorised.
