do we need a new forum

Post by ozziejoe »

I hope this does not get deleted, as when we discussed breaking the forum up into computer tournis, general, and programing, those threads were not deleted

Can we please have a special forum called, "Rybka 1.0 code similarity with Fruit." These massive numbers of threads are getting tiresome, and some interesting threads (not related to similarities) have disappeared.

So lets take a survey. Do we need a new forum?

It is a pity nobody is talking about hte new aquirium, which has some interesting features, and the new rybka, which is the strongest chess analyzer we have ever seen and gives the chess player many insights

Can we please have a special forum called "Vas is evil" or maybe , if we want to be neutral, "Rybka is a clone." These massive numbers of threads are getting tiresome, and some interesting threads (not related to cloning) have disappeared.

Not going to happen. :) I think Vas was asked some time ago
not to talk about his program here. Because of the comm. value
of the program. Now it is ok to talk about Rybka here. :)
His Gui will have some changes made to it to make it easier
to use. The Engine is now as always a great and fun to use.

Best to you,

Gerold.

i've been a member of ccc for a long time, and i dont' recall it ever being this angry and sordid

Has this sort of scrutiny and abuse been leveled at shredder, naum, or other commercial engines? Have people decompiled them?

Please can we get back to talking about chess and chess software

I am not a Lawyer or a Programmer (Though I use to do programming way back in the day (Think 1980's Basic and Machine Code here)). I do agree with what some have to say on both sides of the fence. However I think that if there were really a case to be made that is worth making, then this would have been in a Court of Law already.

Just my two cents ...

seems that close to 60% of those voting (as i write) like things just the way they are now

actually i have been a member here since day one and i recall "hot debates" like this all of the time
one long running hot debate was between Hyatt and Vincent Diepeveen..
this used to surface...calm.. then resurface with threads as long as my Johns...(OK skip that)
the difference there however was that the debate was chiefly between the two principles going at it mano y mano so to speak
here we have several principles on one side and no real principal on the other..so the threads are interspersed with everyone jumping in at will and with no real structure

an attempt was made for some structure by asking the chief questioners to list their concerns and then the principal(s) from the other side will make a good faith attempt at formulating a reply
but even this one thread has now been breached with extraneous postings

i wonder if its even possible to conduct this "question and answer phase "on a public board without some form of moderation.. locking the crucial thread ..and only allowing access to the thread by the principles involved

Joseph has agreed to let the moderators moderate his post and change the keywords instead of reposting it himself.

1. So,Before making any posts, Please read this sticky:

2. Also read the forum charter.

Hi Steve,

Yes, you're right that we tried to impose some structure by asking the principals for the anti-side to list their concerns to then be sent on to Vas. Vas had already promised to answer.

However, Norm and others alleged that I was biased and could not be trusted and would censor their questions etc. So it was not acceptable to the anti-camp that I sent anything to Vas. they said they would do it themselves instead.

Yesterday they changed their collective(?) minds and asked me to send Zach post #1 as a question list.

Correct, thanks. I was just about to search for it myself.

It was about a general "clone discussion" subforum. 51 voted, 3 abstained, and the decision was 32:16 for NO.

Nevertheless, since this topic dominates once more, and more than ever before, I can imagine that the opinions have changed a bit. But the new subforum does not need to be about Rybka/Fruit especially. I suggested as topic: Clones, GPL, Copyright, etc.

yes and it was chiefly due to your efforts that Vas agreed to consider the questions..no small achievement for which you are given FULL credit(even though you are probably on the anti-anti side)

it does seem that 3-4 days have gone by now and i am still searching for the questions??
i haven't logged on for a day or so ..so i guess i am missing the questions being posted..i do see the initial question which was posted 3 days ago so i will search for the relevant threads/posts/questions

on the lighter side...
even if nothing comes of this and it turns out that there is nothing at all to the Fruit---> R1 connection...there is a silver lining to this after all

Enrique,Ed ,Hyatt, Whittington,Czub...are all back and posting again in the CCC
now all we need is Moreland and we are back up to fighting strength
