Rating list and tables.

(This is my selection of well-tested free single-CPU engines. If you like, you can alter this selection, or even make completely different one using our web-site.)

Changes since the last report:

1. Green Light Chess 3.00 joined at the bottom. Only one point difference with Tao 5.6! Those aged programs can still be tough opponents for much newer engines. :-)

2. I decided to extend the diagonal to 16 pairs up and down. This means that every engine participating in my comparison must play a match with 16 nearest engines higher than itself in the list, and with 16 nearest engines lower in the list.

3. Rating history graphs were added for all engines, which you can see on engine details pages (by clicking on engine name in any rating list on our site). For example: Details page for Slow Chess Blitz WV2.1 (scroll down to see the graphs).

Engines I am going to test next:
  • Hamsters 0.4
  • Movei 00.8.438
  • Abrok
  • Pepito
  • Nejmet
  • Spiderchess
  • Arasan 64-bit
  • Comet
  • King of Kings
  • Dragon
Which means I will probably test the first multi-hamster engine next. :D

If you know any other engine with good chances to enter Free Single-CPU top 50, please suggest!

As usual, thanks to all testers who contributed to this comparison!

Best,
Kirill

Hamsters homepage seems down so I can't download the engine! Does anyone know alternative download location? Or will the homepage be fixed soon?

This is the one I tried: http://www.ascotti.org/programming/chess/hamsters.htm

A new version of Arasan is out, it might be able to get to the top 40 without the help of 64bit.

Hi Kirill,

I suggest Twisted Logic 0.099x or Twisted Logic 20070915. :)

Thanks!

Thanks Edsel. :-) If you had to choose one of them for me to test, which one it would be?

(Large number of versions is the only reason I did not test any Twisted Logic so far).

Hi Kirill,

Since I already stopped developing the old version Twisted Logic 0.099x, I want Twisted Logic 20070915 to be included.

BugChess has a good chance of getting into top 35 I guess.

Bright,Chrion,Danasah,Romichess,Nimzo and Deep Patzer are other engines I'd suggest if you plan to test more.

Hi Kirill,
you can download Hamsters 0.5 from here:

http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16535

All the other versions except for 0.0.6 have disappeared from the site, I don't know what happened, my guess is server crashed and was restored from a backup that is more than 6 months old! :-(

If you need Hamsters 0.4 specifically I can mail it to you of course.
