here are the different level setting's for Mark and you to peruse..

this is the Excellence manual posted on Alains site
click to page 11:
http://alain.zanchetta.free.fr/docs/ExcellenceUS.pdf

i think level 7 which is 15 seconds a move on average is best
the game will take about 30-45 minutes combined for both sides
and with two games being played that brings us to an 60-90 minutes worth of play for one sitting

Hiarcs to get White in game one

can i ask you
what version number of Hiarcs will the Excellence be playing?

or shall we call it...Hiarcs Olympiad Regards?
Steve
Hi Steve,

Level 7 sounds fine we are happy with that - We will set to G/15 which is about the same I think?

As for what to call your opponent it is Hiarcs 0.7 - playing on the machine previously described if all is well when it is retrieved from the Uniacke storage facility.

June 10th regards,

Harvey
yes Game/15 will be the equivalent to Excellences 15 seconds per move avg
HOWEVER ..Hiarcs 0.7 should be RESET every 10 moves or so to allow a full 15 minutes each reset..thereby giving it a full 15 seconds per move to ponder on each move
otherwise it will be moving very quickly if the game goes for 60-70 moves or so and not pondering even for 15 seconds because it will "think" it is going to lose on time

hopefully Hiarcs 0.7 can have the level reset during the game?

Fairness In Competition Regards
Steve
Hi Steve,

Does your excellence come with an opening book? I wonder if 0.7 still has the book it played the olympiad with!?

I hope that WCCC coming soon is played with the same fairness that our games gave all been played with.

These should be a real high quality games regards,

Harvey
hi Harvey

i would like to confirm this Sundays(June.10) match

is it still on ?
if so..

do i use the opening book?
i am using the Excellence-3 Mhz and Mark will be operating Hiarcs 0.7
two games
Hiarcs gets the White pieces in game one
time control-30 sec/move avg
start time 11:00-11:30 am PlayChess Server time
Regards
Steve
Hi Steve,

Have passed the message to Mark. I will let you know what he says later. Unfortunately I don't think I can be there on Sunday morning as I have to work.

Will let you know as soon as I hear back from Mark.

Best Wishes,

Harvey
Shame you cant for once sit back and kibbutz instead of operating

if Saturday morning (same time) is better for you i can manage that as well

Best
Steve
Hi Steve,

the equipment has been retrieved from storage and will be tested tonight. If all goes well its game on for Sunday morning. Mark thinks there is an opening book stored on the machine.

More info as it becomes available regards,

Harvey
OK

Thanks Regards
Steve

hi Harvey

oops i think i made a mistake here

we initially discussed 15 seconds per move avg not 30 seconds
see our earlier posts about that
30 seconds per move could bring us past two hours of playing time in one sitting which i cant manage on Sunday while 15 seconds per move will probably take us about 90 minutes

please clarify that with Mark

sorry my bad..

15 seconds per move avg regards
Steve

"I will get my 7Mhz Amiga out the loft and use it with H from 1989 - the exact version that competed in the Computer Olympiad"

Steve has agreed to play with a version of the Fidelity excellence. More details soon!

Hi Harvey
it will be the Excel Display(6093)..which is the same program as the Excellence -3Mhz(6080) but with the display screen

so i will be able to report PV's and depth of search from time to time

this match is somewhat unusual as it will be played under NORMAL match conditions for a game of Chess,Ehlvest is NOT involved and i can play from my home and Mark from his and no one has to sleep over anyone's else's house!

 Regards

some questions about Hiarcs 0.5

Post by Werner »

Hi Harvey,
- is it correct: Hiarcs moves instantly on PC level 3?
- if I use TIME command answer is always 0 secs for PC and player?
- I can save and load: could not find the saved file on HD?

the least i can do is show you a photo of it:

http://new.photos.yahoo.com/cpaa2@sbcgl ... 952609/127

oh and i almost forgot the manual:

http://new.photos.yahoo.com/cpaa2@sbcgl ... 964807/128

if you look closely at the manual you will notice that Fidelity made a mistake in the printing on the cover

they have the model numbers mixed between the Excel Display and the Excel Voice

 Regards

It depends which version you are talking about. the 1981 and 83 versions - 0.3 and 0.5 will move instantly whatever level you put them on.

The one playing tomorrow I think will be set to average 15 seconds a move.

I have no idea where the games will be saved.

Best Wishes,

Harvey
