Modern Chess Openings 16th edition? MCO-16?

Post by smatovic »

I know, there is ChessBase and Chess Assistant, but haptics have a comeback these days (tape, vinyl, Polaroid), maybe somebody has some insights if there is an MCO-16 edition incoming?

MCO-14 is from 1999, doubt much computer analysis, MCO-15 is from 2008, the introduction says human plan/strategy + computer tactics/assist, 2008 engine range was ~3000 Elo (CCRL), nowadays ~3750, quite a leap...

I have MCO-15, but I wish they would publish all the openings + variations in a PGN somewhere. Perhaps I could scrape the PDF I've seen online.

MCO-14 introduction from 1999 says:
twenty months of long hours
I spent more than a year and a half sifting and evaluat-
ing this material, assisted by the Fritz computer program checking for
tactical errors.
MCO-15 introduction from 2008 says:
The previous edition, MC0-14, was written in 1999. This first edi-
tion of the twenty-first century reflects the changes.that have occurred in
the openings along with the fundamental change brought on by the great
progress of computer chess programs. The best programs are on a par
with the world's best players. Human players are better at strategic think-
ing, planning, and imagination in chess. Computers well surpass their
human counterparts in raw calculation and have the advantage that
they never overlook a tactical opportunity. The chess openings herein are
often the result of collaborative work between the humans and computers.
The human grandmasters provide the plan, while the computer checks
the variations for tactical accuracy.
Looking forward for the MCO-16 one.
