zurichess jura - preview release

Post by brtzsnr » Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:19 pm

Hi, all!

In a month or so I will release a new stable version of my chess engine. Since there have been some significant changes and the project has gotten some publicity (e.g. it's used in picochess board) I would like to make a bug free stable release. Last time two small bugs were reported that I didn't catch in my tests.

Enough with the talk here are the binaries.
linux http://www.zurichess.xyz/zurichess-master-linux-amd64
windows http://www.zurichess.xyz/zurichess-mast ... -amd64.exe

Please DO NOT use these binaries for public rating lists. If possible just include them in your private tournaments or human-engine matches.

Thank you for the engine :)

Is it possible, that the "skill level" setting has no effect on the playing strength of the engine?

Skills should work as expected, but I will double check, Do you have an example input on which you think it fails? Or is this through a GUI, e.g. Arena?

I tested the Linux version in Xboard and ran it against a ~2000 Elo Engine. I don't know what the hardest skill level is (since the default value was surprisingly a "0") so I tested "10" and "0" which seems to be upper- and lower limit.

In both cases, zurichess destroyed the other engine (Bikjump).

Thank you for the feedback, it's valuable especially when it's repeated.

First I need to change the skill levels to match Stockfish scale (20 - best, 0 - worst) because this is what people are used to.

Skill level 10 ~= 700 Elo drop (for Graubuenden at least). I will increase the maximum Elo drop and retune the skill levels.

So indeed there was a bug in the skills level. I updated the binaries and made skills from 0 (strongest) to 20 (weaker by ~1200 Elo). Can you try again?

Thanks for reporting!

When can we await the stable Version for testing?

Hi, Werner!

Thank you for including Zurichess in your tests.

Today or tomorrow I will release the stable version of the chess engine. I waited for the new version of the Go compiler [1] which produces better code, especially on ARM platforms.
