Human vs Engine Top Crazyhouse match !

Post by Vinvin » Thu Dec 01, 2016 9:42 pm

JannLee, a top Crazyhouse player, accepted to play Stockfish-zh in a 10 games match !

The match will be play on Lichess, this Saturday 3th Dec 6pm GMT.
Conditions : 10 games, time control 3m+2s.

I'll manually operate the latest SF-zh on my computer (6*4GHz) inside Chrome (PNaCl), using a couple of moves from Lichess opening book.
I'll manage the time myself : around 10 seconds/move in the opening and around 5 sec/move in the middle game.

JannLee account : https://fr.lichess.org/@/JannLee

For information, JannLee beat SF-zh (0.5 sec / 1 core) , score 8-2 , 3 weeks ago, video here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTNAHmlQDXA

For 3 weeks, SF-zh improved a lot (300+ Elo).

Announcement on GitHub SF-zh is here : https://github.com/ddugovic/Stockfish/issues/147

Nice! JanLee played the lichess engine some weeks before. He won 8-2 but it was the lichess.org SF Level 8 "online engine" which does not calculate very deep.

Will be interesting to see the match using good hardware and with longer TC :)

The time control was changed just after first game (lost on time) to 5m+15s.
SF-zh won 6-0 !

I finally used the PNaCl (Chrome) version. Not enough time to test .exe and WB interface.

I was following the match. It was not a fair match, because Justin was talking throughout the match. You need a match where he just plays.

Thanks a lot Vincent for the match. It's about time for the engines to overtake humans in zh. In the end it took longer than for go!

As far as I can tell, Vincent gave him a lot of "+15 seconds" preventing him running out of time

I didn't know SF-zh would be so strong (JannLee neither), so I wanted to use a lot of time to be not killed in the opening/earlyMG.
I had to :
1) copy moves from board to board
2) manage the time control
3) follow the stream (sometimes I missed a move during 10 sec because I was distracting)
4) type comments on 2 chats
that takes me 5 to 10 sec by move.

For the next match I'll play faster and I'll use the Winboard to manage the time (copy move will take me around 3 seconds).

JannLee already agreed for a next match but the date is not fixed yet.

Can you have the next match on FICS, so that Stockfish can be automated without manual operation (using WinBoard as client)? Stockfish / WinBoard could connect on a guest account.
The thing I'm not sure of would be how to force Stockfish to play specific openings, if you were planning to control the openings.

Winboard can be configured so that the engine can use the winboard gui book. This winboard gui book can be created manually or automatically using games from pgn file. The book can also be edited to suit which opening to be played.
