Hi all,
a new version of Octochess has been released.
r5190 is a bugfix release over the previous r5178. In particular, it fixes a bug in the transposition table which caused bogus entries to be stored, resulting in a loss in playing strength. Two small Fischer Random bugs have been fixed as well.
As always, you can download the latest version from
http://octochess.org/
Please let me know if you are having any issues with the new version.
The complete list of changes:
- Fix a bug in the transposition table leading to bogus entries
- Do not report f1g1 castling move as ambiguous in Fischer Random Chess with king on f1, rook on g1.
- CECP: Fix typo in detecting fischerrandom variant
- Fix crash on startup if system's default locale is invalid

How much stronger do you think this version is compared to r5132?
Just trying to select a good range of opponents for a gauntlet.

Somewhat stronger. The transposition table bug alone, which had been present for ages, did cost at least 20 elo. There are other improvements as well, but I didn't keep track on what they were worth, so I don't have any more specific figures to compare r5132 with r5190 though.

I'll take a stab with an 80 ELO gain and see how things go.
