Djinn 0.967 is now available for download

Post by Tom Likens » Mon Oct 15, 2012 5:51 am

For those interested in weaker engines--it's been a while since I've released a new version of Djinn
(approx. 4+ years I think  ) so I'm releasing the latest version (0.967) here:

http://webpages.charter.net/tlikens/index.html

And the download page:

http://webpages.charter.net/tlikens/download.html

It's a decent amount stronger than 0.925x, which was definitely getting long in the tooth. This may
(or may not) be the last single-threaded version. I've started looking into what is required for an MP
version, but it really depends on how busy I get at work.

The Windows version was compiled with gcc 4.7.2 using MingW. I tested it on a two year old Intel
dual-core and two AMD machines (one a dual-core and the other an 8-core beast) so I would be
interested in other machines that people try it on.

Of course bug reports are always welcome as are test results.

regards,

Ah, yes and I also updated the perl script that I wrote which displays the data from a PGN
file with a number of new features (none earth-shattering, just kinda nice).

http://webpages.charter.net/tlikens/util/pgn

From the webpage:
This script parses a PGN file and displays the results of the games. It can be run for multiple opponents or for a match between two players. When there are only two players extra information is displayed. Run it without any options to get a summary of its capabilities and operation. As an example of its output here is the results of a 4000-game, alternating colors, match between Djinn and Yace. The script shows the calculated Elo difference and the "Likelihood of Superiority" using Remi's "WhoIsBest" algorithm.
Remi's post:

http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 82&t=30624

A useful option for two player matches is:

pgn <file.pgn> -p -v

which makes it easy to see long runs of wins or losses.

Hohoho! What a surprise (although you were suspect lingering here lately).

Djinn is one of the very few engines whose error margin can be expressed in one digit in our list, so it was time to do something...

My testing queue is very long, unfortunately, but I'll strain to find a hole...

Cheers,

Thanks Gabor,

Once you catch it, I'm afraid the chess programming disease never entirely disappears.
I think the best any of us can hope for are periods of remission!

Test it when you can and thanks for the help.

Hello Geno,

I only released 64-bit versions, but if there was interest I could also release a 32-bit version.
All my operating systems are 64-bit, so my focus has been there lately.

Hello Tom,

Perfect timing! Later this week, the newest Djinn will participate in the first division of CountryChess (USA). Good luck in advance :-)
