Sting SF 2 is now available

Post by lech » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:56 pm

I decided to do a version of my work published.
As earlier, Sting is based on Stockfish 2.1.1 code.
The link is: http://www.mediafire.com/?z600gg9gyr6j4gn
The main goal of my work is to help in analysing of some difficult positions (zugzwangs, "longer" sacrifices etc.).
The construction of "null move search" in Stockfish (and all other top engines probably too) excludes such abilities now.
Sting's ELO is probably 2900+.
Sorry, I added only one windows 32-bit exe-file (my compilation is ~15% slower than Jim Ablett's).
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

Stockfish butchered by a noob: weaker than SF, Makefile is broken... But at least this time you decided to respect the GPL, which is a step in the right direction

I always respected the GPL.
A common work at "null move search" it is the step in the right direction. :D

The binary included inside the zip file of sting2 is damaged.
Looks like there is a buffer overflow, and probably some malicious intent,
which of course can't be detected by any program at virustotal.com

I have your Sting-10.zip downloaded around last year,
and this sting-1.0 version is working fine.

Thanks, but it is the strange information. I used source code of Sting 1 from Jim Ablett's pages.
The options for compliler and linker are suggested by Marco Costalba. On my computer it works.
Ok, I will remove binary code. Maybe someone can do it better (32 and 64 bit).

I checked all my files of Sting SF 2 again.
It is a fact that I am not an expert of compilation. Sorry.
It works on my computer, but it is possible that some users may have problems.
It is your decision and a risk to use it!
I published my work again: http://www.mediafire.com/?qnrp1guz5k135fi
Sting SF 2 is to be a serious work. There were many downloads.

It is a minimal chance to get the Jim Ablett's compilation.

I ASK HIM FOR IT!

My person and my ideas were derided repeatedly. Maybe that's enough!

THE ELO RACE FINISHED!

"Null move search" is the heart of engines.
It may work for machnes (Stockfish 2.x) or people (Sting SF 2).

Sorry, probably, I forgot to add Makefile again.
Please use the file from Sting 1 (http://cl.ly/CU8g/sting-10-ja.zip).

Try Stockfish and Sting in these positions to know which engine is better for you.
[d]3N2r1/2K1p3/4Pk2/8/Bp5b/8/2P5/8 b - -
1...Bg3+ 2.Kd7 Rxd8
[d]6R1/8/2pB3k/2P4p/5p1q/5P2/4P1K1/8 w - -
1.Bf8+

Such positions are lots.

Stockfish team replaced 5 by R and found a few ELO points and maybe one position in the ELO list.
Was it worth?

You are quoting out of context. I have never joked you, sorry if this was the impression.
