Out of interest, I did "uci" and "go depth 20" on Spark 0.3 but it only reports bestmove for "info depth 17" so it looks like the real depth -3 for some reason? Bug?
Spark should report the searched depth accurately.
This appears to be a minor bug, and shouldn't affect games.

If no time is specified (as in your case), the maximum search time defaults to 5 seconds, probably this causes what you're seeing.
(You will only reach depth ~17 for 'go depth 30' in stead of 20, correct?)

now part 3 is ready (third interview with a TOP 20 chess programmer).

An interview with Allard Siemelink (Bright, Spark) can be found under:

SCHACHWELT:
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=99

On the end of the interview you can find information about new official versions of Bright and Spark. I think the programmer will upload the files in the evening.

The interview is in English language (I think I have to make some corrections, I will do it tomorrow). I added the questions in German too.

Have fun !!

Best

Ah, ok.
maximum search time defaults to 5 seconds
I hadn't seen this before, I sometimes use the go depth command to compare performance on different machines.

Yes that's correct, "go depth 30" gives a bestmove for depth 17 also.

Thanks

Thanks for an Interview.

I had a great time being an operator for Bright at CCT Standard and Blitz.

The engine at the time was brilliant.

The agreement of the day. I somewhat dislike private engines.
