How did you come to the conclusion that engines have this opening under control? I always thought the opposite.

If you want some good theory on this you will find that most of the top Playchess books are very good in this opening.

I was referring to the Jeroen's book for Rybka (http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4964) and a couple of powerful wins of the engine (including Shredder http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1465000)

Actually I can remeber 2 games in the same tourney where not being properly "booked" up cost one side a game. One was with Junior winning with a good book opening, the other was another engine can't remeber exactly which one. This was about a year or two ago.

Plachess is a place where a lot of people try different openings. I know poison pawn was the rave for quite some time. It seems that now it is pretty much played out to a draw ... or maybe not

I believe that many years old a version of Deep Junior was the first engine to play this winning variation. I remember going over the variations and being stunned. This is the kinda of lines that a killer against engines. They see compensation far too late and by then they are already lost.

Therefore to see Shredder lose to it, someone was not doing their homework
