Re: Is This The Future Of Chess?
I would not agree with a lot of statements in the article, especially with the assertion any top program would handily beat Carlsen, no matter what its first move.
Of course, any top engine would have a very difficult time holding after 1.Nh3, or 1.g4 for example, or, when playing black, after 1.e4 f5, etc., not to mention that 1.e4 g5 even loses a pawn.

Chess programs are beating Super-GM's spotting them a pawn or minor piece! Carlsen would have no chance against a bot.Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote:I would not agree with a lot of statements in the article, especially with the assertion any top program would handily beat Carlsen, no matter what its first move.

Carlsen would have a hard time drawing against Stockfish 8 even if he starts a knight up.Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote:I would not agree with a lot of statements in the article, especially with the assertion any top program would handily beat Carlsen, no matter what its first move.

Pure knight odds is similar to double exchange odds ->Leto wrote:Carlsen would have a hard time drawing against Stockfish 8 even if he starts a knight up.Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote:I would not agree with a lot of statements in the article, especially with the assertion any top program would handily beat Carlsen, no matter what its first move.

Yes you recently posted a game in which SF9 dev beats Houdini 4 pro despite having this handicap:Nordlandia wrote:Pure knight odds is similar to double exchange odds ->Leto wrote:Carlsen would have a hard time drawing against Stockfish 8 even if he starts a knight up.Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote:I would not agree with a lot of statements in the article, especially with the assertion any top program would handily beat Carlsen, no matter what its first move.

Houdini 4 is easily stronger than Carlsen.

Re: Is This The Future Of Chess?
I think their reason for not wanting to go to Fischer Random Chess is lame. The old games will still be valid even though they will only a small part of the FRC opening theory.
The pros seem quite happy to play FRC. The real opposition to FRC comes from amateurs who rarely draw games. You can't leave your audience behind.

Deasil is the right way to go.

Re: Is This The Future Of Chess?
It's not actually opposition, it's just lack of need because FRC fixes a problem that amateurs don't even have. That's because amateurs don't have the level of knowledge where things become worn-out and boring to GMs. At least, that's my amateur view.Dirt wrote:The real opposition to FRC comes from amateurs who rarely draw games.

Mark this date down. April 18th , 2017 - I actually agree with Sean Evans at least for a match. One game anything can happen.Sean Evans wrote:Chess programs are beating Super-GM's spotting them a pawn or minor piece! No matter how much, you, bunch of disbelievers, would hate it, under proper conditions(complete quiet), I would win every single match against any top engine out there!
