Fire 4 for linux
Is Fire 4 available for Linux ?
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

Hi Lucas-lucasart wrote:Is Fire 4 available for Linux ?
No, and it doesn't run via Wine either...
This is something I can fairly easily fix, so I intend to spend some time on it before next release (in Dec.) ...
unless I get enough improvement to do an intermediary release (for ex: 4.5)
(since Jan. I have ~ 10-15 ELO, 12 to be a bit more precise) but as always, feel like I'm on the verge of a major breakthrough!
I've recently added large page support, but will have to educate myself on how to port this to Linux.
I tried doing some Linux work using Oracle's Virtual Box, but really didn't like that environment at all...
it was extremely slow, and I just didn't have the patience to figure out what the issues were.
Normally testing runs 24/7 but for the last week or so, work has slowed down a bit, as I'm having some concerns with the heat
wave here in Europe (my networked array of i7s is in the hottest room of the house).
If the heat continues, I'll have to purchase an air conditioner for that space...
Keep up the great stuff you guys are doing on SF, very impressive!
Best Regards-
Norm

Large pages are transparent in Linux. Nothing to port. Large page support is a workaround for Windows defective memory manager.kranium wrote: I've recently added large page support, but will have to educate myself on how to port this to Linux.

2mb large pages are transparent. That's not enough. you need 1gb pages and they require effort (mmap() plus the huge table file system and pre-allocating huge pages at boot time.lucasart wrote:Large pages are transparent in Linux. I don't know when the 1gb pages will become transparent, but certainly not today.

Hi Daniel-
Wow, looks very pretty there...(ok, I admit it, I had to Google 'andorra' to see where it was)
Since you're in the mountains I imagine it must be quite a bit cooler than here...?
