Changes in Aquarium 2017?

Post by chessman2b »

Hi Folks:

I see that Aquarium 2017 has been released. I can't tell from reading the text on Chessok if there were any actual updates to the program itself (I see the database update and 3 month subscription). Does anyone know if there are any updated features?

My recommendation is to stay far away from it, the support is abysmal and instead of patching bugs they just release new versions you have to buy again.

It's a good thing I decided not to upgrade. I'm still using Rybka 4 Aquarium made back in 2011 :)

and btw Leto, is that a picture of your real chess set? My picture is my set.

No I haven't touched a chess set ever since I got into computer chess.

The latest (Build 912) version is far superior to the 2011 version.

A quick demonstration on why I wouldn't support it:
http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforu ... ?tid=31752

So even if it's true that the 2017 version is superior to the 2011 version, what happens if you run into a big bug that renders it practically unusable? Good luck getting ChessOk to fix it for you.

I am afraid you are right. Recently I started to make some annotations which Aquarium saved in a pgn. Over the course of 1 week I invested quite a bit of time analyzing and saving the results in this file. At one point my PC crashed. Upon a reboot and restart of Aquarium the saved pgn was no longer filled. It was of size zero and all of my work was lost. Aquarium has potential in nice functionality that is missing in Chessbase but at least Chessbase won't throw away content saved in a file. I have send a mail to ChessOK about this a few days ago without any response so far. The Aquarium build I use is a little more recent than what they offer via the web. I use build 913. Don't know what build Aquarium 2017 is supposed to be and what has been fixed but I don't have high hopes.

Convekta support said:
cf. website http://chessok.com/?page_id=80

But no new special manual for aquarium 2017 all our last manuals on this page http://chessok.com/manuals/

2) we don't have lomonosov tablebases for download

They are too large (the size in terrabytes) at least in 10 times larger
than chessbase tablebases about which you wrote

3) 5-pieces tablebases even previous aqusrium version install on your
hard disk

6-pieces tablebases we have on DVD but have no plans to sell them as
download product

Best wishes,
Norbert

I just bought Aquarium 2017 and had a few questions for ChessOK. All were promptly answered. The program works for me.
