Up until this tournament, Belle had never lost to another computer, this one was for the Championship. Belle would have won the championship in a 3-way tie-break if it had won. And to think that even a mobile/cell phone running a modern engine would very likely repeatedly trounce either of these two programs (running on the hardware of their day).

Yep, and Belle already lost round 3 from Nuchess. Nuchess would have won the championship in a 2-way tie-break if it had won the last round versus Bebe.
