I've processed the games of C.C.R.L. 40/40, Komodo has a few more. Significant is the difference in promotions of pawns,
Stockfish prefers Queen side.
Komodo of the King side.
I wonder if these data can help improve engines, I think Yes.
Study of moves pawns white:
I don't know whether the numbers for each engines are normalized, it looks like no which makes difficult the comparison, i.e. based only on color.
Furthermore it seems like you've processed games for both engines when they have the white side only.
Keep in mind that in the CCRL many pawn moves aren't made by the engines but by the book so we can't really conclude much on them IMO.
Also you pointed out that Stockfish's king never reached h8 square while Komodo did it 5 times but Komodo played more games, and these numbers are so small that we can't really judge the style of the engines based on such data, IMO. Stockfish reached a8 4 times while Komodo only once and this may be "more spectacular" or "more strange" than 4 vs 0 for the h8 square.
The reason is to comment on the tool.
Stockfish and Komodo are just examples.
Based on the color, of course, with black it can be equal.
Komodo is 648 games, Stockfish is 473 games. Much or little difference, depends on.
I think that the books are short and little transcendent.
But it is not my idea to do a study, perhaps of my projects, I believe that this can help.
