Purdue FOSCEC Season 1

Post by Gusev »

Purdue FOSCEC (Free, Open-Source Chess Engine Contest) Season 1 has begun. The Web broadcast is available at http://www.foscec.org/season1/index.htm. The site updates every 5 min. The time control is 120'+30". The number of threads is 2. Hash = 256M. The PGN archive of the games is available at http://www.foscec.org/season1/games.pgn. Purdue CIT students Adam Davenport, Tony Roberts, and Garrison Foster contributed to this project as part of their CNIT 242 System Administration course.
Participating engines:
1. Stockfish 220414 (local compile)
2. DON 1.0b (factory compile: the local compile didn't work correctly)
3. Gull 3 (factory compile: the local compile tended to crash)
4. Firenzina 2.4.2 xTreme (local compile)
5. Ivanhoe 1945b (local compile)
6. Protector 1.6.0 (factory compile: the local compile didn't work properly)
7. Senpai 1.0 (local compile)
8. Texel 1.03 (factory compile: couldn't compile C++11 locally)
9. Toga II 3.0 (local compile)
10. MinkoChess 1.3 (factory compile)

Experience with Fritz tournaments, anyone? Deep Fritz 14 skipped Game 5 of Round 1 (Ivanhoe - Protector) and proceeded straight to Game 6. Protector is now playing against MinkoChess, so could it be a problem with Ivanhoe? We'll see. All 10 engines ran well in the earlier short TC test tournament. I am not stopping the tournament. If Game 5 ends up the only one skipped, it can be played separately and added at the end. Unsurprisingly, Stockfish and DON have taken the early lead.

Hi Dmitri: Interesting tournament but when I click on the above site http://www.foscec.org/season1/games.pgn it brings me back to this page. I was hoping to go over the games.

Stockfish and DON continue to lead after Round 3, with 2.5 points each. Ivanhoe has 2 points and is one game behind the leaders, because of its skipped game against Protector that will have to be played at the end of the tournament. Likewise, Protector is one game behind with 1.5.
