Arena 3.5: No Adjudicated TB ending?

I have 5-piece Gaviota installed in Arena 3.5, and so far have seen 5 games adjudicated via the new TB feature. It looked to be working great.

However, with the option still enabled (I confirmed), I just had a game that did not adjudicate, despite the fact that the EGTB status window in Arena was showing it as a won game. Note that in this game, none of the engines were using TBs and it was actually a bit difficult for them to see the mate. On move 60, 5-piece was achieved, and Arena reported via Gaviota mate in 71. My first guess is maybe this was beyond the 50 move limit, so it's being ignored (hey, it's a cool "feature"!). However, after the game using Houdini 4 with Syzygy, the score is -78.04 after a few minutes. OK, fine, maybe Arena 3.5 waits until DTM is below 50 to make sure, but as can be seen, the tournament was not halted by TBs even when the DTM lowered in later moves.

The game was ended when it went past the threshold of -1000 cp that I use....no announcement from Arena that it was a TB adjudication, despite it now being mate in 21.

ChessGUI too does not adjudicate "mate in more than 50" because a 50-move draw might be possible.

That is not the relevant point. If you get to mate in 50, but 10 moves are already played, it could still be a 50-move draw. It should only adjudicate when the current reversible-move-counter plus the DTM gets below 50. This seems a problem with bitbase adjudication. Even WDL based on DTZ50 would not tell you when it becomes won for a reverisble-move counter 10.

In WinBoard I am now building an option that would reduce the search depth (on a per-engine basis) when a bitbase draw is encountered. I guess this can be safely used with Scorpio EGBB, which (I think) do not take into account the 50-move rule. So positions marked as won/lost might actually be 50-move draws, but these are not adjudicated anyway (as presumably EGT-using engines, for which the option is intended, could instantly play the fastest-winning move or the best defence). The option only affects play in drawn positions, and positions marked as draws will always be draws.

When we get below 50, adjudication depends on when last non-reversible move (i.e. castle, pawn move, capture) was made.
When 50-move draw becomes impossible, we adjudicate as mate.

Are you sure? I always thought that by definition irreversible move is one that cannot be repeated later, thus castling logically should be irreversible. What about 3-fold repetition and castling?

50 move rules is not about reversible moves (in fact, as player, I was not even aware of the term), it is just about captures and pawn moves.
