Djinn 0.969 Released (64-bit + 32-bit)

Post by Tom Likens »

I got a number of requests for the 32-bit Window's version of Djinn so you can find it here:

http://webpages.charter.net/tlikens/index.html

Also in the process I fixed a rather nasty bug, (always a possibility when touching the code as
much as I have been lately). You can *never* add enough regression tests.

So there is a new version (0.969). Please use this for any new tournaments or gauntlets that are
about to start. The bug is in the history file if you're interested. And as always, bug reports or
suggestions are welcome, (keep it semi-civilized please) 8-)

best,

Nice work Tom. Thanks.

Best to you,
Gerold.

P.S. It works good in Arena.

Thanks Gerold,

I'm glad to know that it runs under Arena. Arena is a great GUI, but for some reason
I almost never use it, (it's probably because I use Linux almost exclusively). I know it
works flawlessly under Wine, but I still seem to use xboard or cutechess-cli 99% of
the time; old habits I suppose...

Hi Tom,

I am not able to get Djinn 64-bit to work in Arena. With regular Winboard, it does not play any moves at all. With "old" Winboard, it plays one move and that's it. I'm using Arena 3.0, engine defaults, epd random positions to start, and a 2cpu Intel machine.

Hello Norm,

I'll look into it. Which exact version of Winboard are you using? Which version of Windows
are you using, 2000, XP, Windows 7 etc? Also I'm assuming it's a 64-bit version of
Windows. :D

Any details you can give me about the "old" version of Winboard would be helpful too.
As for Arena, is it working in earlier versions or is it having problems there as well?

Another question, does the 32-bit version run or does it hang as well?

For the 64-bit version, can you start it in a console window or does it hang there as well?

Finally, if you could supply me with any configuration files you're using that would be a
great help (you may want to send all this information to me in a private email so as not
to bother everyone else).

thanks,

Norm,

Try this in Arena 3.0.

1. Go under the "Engines" menu
2. Open the "Manage..." submenu
3. When the dialog opens select Djinn from the engines listed
4. In the command line options add "-xboard"

Please, let me know if that fixes things. If yes, then my guess is that
you'll need to add something similar for Winboard. I'll look into that next.

FYI: The command line options can be entered in the "Details" tab of the dialog.

Tom,

The freezes I was experiencing were without "-xboard" and with using Fischer incremental time.

Without "-xboard" djinn freezes with games in Fischer incremental time. With "-xboard" it handles Fischer incremental PROVIDED it is not in milliseconds. With milliseconds, it freezes.
