About Endgames in the Olympiad (EDITED TITLE by MODs)

Post by lech »

A hot today game.

Zhao,Xue (2549) - Rajlich,Iweta (2412) [D72]
40th Olympiad 2012 Women1 Istanbul (8), 05.09.2012

[d]8/8/8/3k1Ppp/6P1/3KN2P/8/2b5 b - - 0 57

Iveta (Rybka) plays Bxe3 ?????????????? instead of simlpe Ke5 with dead draw.
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

BTW.

A next won endgame in the game (the same match):
Ding,Yixin (2424) - Szczepkowska-Horowska,Karina (2375) [B33]
40th Olympiad 2012 Women1 Istanbul (8), 05.09.2012

[d]8/7p/5k2/1R6/p6P/2r5/8/4K3 b - - 0 67

Karina plays a fatal move (blocking of own passed pawn like Gelfand vs. Anand - WC match 8-) )
67... Ra3 ????????????

instead of simple 67...Rh3 68.Ra5 Rxh4 and two pawns should give a win.

Thanks to the two fatal moves Polish them lost the important match with China. :D

Both Iweta and Karina were a "black heros" in the previous match against Russia (2:2) too.
And again endgames and again passed pawns! :?

Rajlich,Iweta (2412) - Kosintseva,Nadezhda (2524) [A28]
40th Olympiad 2012 Women1 Istanbul (7), 04.09.2012
[d]8/5p2/5Pkp/P2Q2p1/q3P3/8/5PK1/8 w - - 0 55

Iweta plays 55. Qe5 ??????????? and after 55... h5! it is a draw.
There were two winning continuation.
The first 55.e5, not easy but without any risk.
The second (rather easy sacrifice) 55.Qf5+ Kh5 56.e5!! Qxa5 57.Qh3+ Kg6 58.Qd3+ Kh5 59.e6!
[d]8/5p2/4PP1p/q5pk/8/3Q4/5PK1/8 b - - 0 59
and Black can't play 59...fe 60.f7 Qc5 61.Qf3+ g4 62.Qa8
[d]Q7/5P2/4p2p/2q4k/6p1/8/5PK1/8 b - - 0 62

Szczepkowska-Horowska,Karina (2375) - Pogonina,Natalija (2448) [C47]
40th Olympiad 2012 Women1 Istanbul (7), 04.09.2012
[d]8/8/8/p2B4/1b3R2/kP4r1/P2p2P1/3K4 w - - 0 62

Karina gives a gift 62.Rxb4 ???????????? and lost.
Black passed pawn d2 is not that danger. After 62.Bf3 and next Kc2 it seems to be impossible

to win it (Black).

I was watching (live) both the matches and I never do it again.

These Endgames are simple, making it hard to imagine any decent program today couldn't handle them with ease.

I is not about Rybka program, it is about Vasik's wife, Iveta Rajlich ("rybka", or perhaps "a bird" in english).

What a misleading topic. The topic is titled "Rybka can't play endgames" and then Iweta's games are presented.

It is a pity that my humorous (I hope) title was changed. :?

BTW (for new title)
As I earlier wrote I left the woman games out.
I was watching such an endgame:

Macieja,Bartlomiej (2594) - Babula,Vlastimil (2595) [B07]
40th Olympiad 2012 Open1 Istanbul (10), 07.09.2012
[d]3k4/R4p2/p2Pn3/4p1P1/1r2N3/3K2P1/8/8 w - - 0 51
And again a surprise with passed pawns in the main role.
Bartlomiej doesn't play (easy ?) 51.Rxa6!! Rd4+ 52.Ke3 Rxe4+ 53.Kxe4 Nc5+ 54.Kxe5 Nxa6 55.Kf6
[d]3k4/5p2/n2P1K2/6P1/8/6P1/8/8 b - - 0 55
and White wins. :D

+1

AFAICS there was only one person (John Krush) that did not understand the nice joke.

Last round (at last!):

Mkrtchian,Lilit (2454) - Rajlich,Iweta (2412) [A25]
40th Olympiad 2012 Women1 Istanbul (11), 09.09.2012
[d]5k2/8/5P2/p2pK3/1p2Q3/1Pn5/5B2/8 b - - 0 75

Black plays 75... dxe4 ?????????????????????????????? and after 76.Ke6 (AGAIN!) passed pawn wins.
The move 75... Nxe4 gave the draw (2:2) in this important match.

Let moderators return my original name of this topis. :D
