Like many of us, I was waiting impatiently for the new Battle Chess. Anounced last summer it was meant to be published on iPad, PC, Mac and xBox 360 before the end of 2011. Months passed and... nothing.
Now it seems they need money to complete the project: $100.000. So they opened a page for donation. 15 days to go, and $13.110 gathered up to now:

Re: Battle Chess needs help
there is another project named battle and chess or something like that by an European company with fritz engine. It seems to me more promising than this stuff with an engine with fixed levels and at best 2300 elo..

C'mon Fern, Battle Chess was always intended for fun, so no need for elo hunting. If they wanted they could easily integrate super-strong "public domain" engine which would beat the hell out of any Fritz. In fact I respect them for using an original engine and already backed them up. Besides 2300 should be good enough to beat 99% chess players anywayfern wrote:there is another project named battle and chess or something like that by an European company with fritz engine. The video is heart breaking: it must be so shameful for such guys (they are behind Earth Worm Jim and a few other classics) to resort to such means to finish their project.
So the needed $100.000 is to include multiplayer? I hope they'll release it anyway if they can't fund it (and it looks like they won't find enough backup, as they are making no advertising at all for their Needs).
The animations look absolutely gorgeous. See Fern, that's what Battle Chess is all about: high quality animations. I remember how much fun I had on my Amiga with the original game, back in the days. Yes, the engine was extremely weak (maybe 1400 Elo at best), but it was entertaining enough. When I wanted a beat up I'd play against Sargon III.

Re: Battle Chess needs help
wrong Fern - don't go near that 'battle v chess' imposter program. I bought it and can beat it easily. I rate it at 1300 elo and I complained it wasn't the real Fritz. I even contacted Chessbase with this letter (but they did not respond...ugh):
Dear Sir,
As you know I am a long time Chessbase customer.
I am currently in depute with the developers of Battle vs Chess because they claim their product has the Fritz 10 engine in it. I have bought this programs for the Mac and even on its top level it plays at a mere 1300 elo (approximately) and I can beat it easily.
I have told the developers that I believe they are advertising Battle vs Chess for the Mac claiming to have Fritz in it - but it doesn't. The P.C version may do, but my Mac version plays like a patzer even on 10 mins per move.
I have enclosed a game where the computer was black on its top level for you to see how bad it is and also my email correspondence with the company who sells Battle vs Chess.
White: Carl Bicknell
Black: Battle vs Chess AI, level 9 (claiming to be Fritz 10)
1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5 4. Nf3 Nd7 5. Be2 f6 6. Nh4 Be4 7. e6 Nb6 8. Bh5+
g6 9. f3 gxh5 10. fxe4 Qc7 11. Qxh5+ Kd8 12. Nc3 dxe4 13. Ng6 Nd5 14. Nxh8 Nf4
15. Qf7 Nxe6 16. Qxe6 and white is winning easily.
Regards,
Carl Bicknell

Re: Battle Chess needs help
I know it is intended for fun and and you should know I am the guy always insisting in the fun aspect of chess and programs. It is that IF two programs offer same entertaining, then it seem logical to choose the one with an extra advantage, in this case, the engine. But what Carl B. say ijn this thread change everything anyway.

Re: Battle Chess needs help
I think I will not for this reason: the target is too far, it will be not reached, the program will not be completed and so any sum will be lost. I have no problem with 15 bucks, but just throwing it to the trash bin is not my view of how to treat Mister Money.

Re: Battle Chess needs help
The fund rising at Kickstarters failed... and now there's no mention anymore of Battle Chess on the developer's website:
http://www.subduedsoftware.com/games/battle-chess
Game canceled? Pity. I was looking forward to this one, and it was apparently only missing the multiplayer part...
