Arena epd file

Post by tomlynch »

Hi, from working with pgn files I can see clearly why epd is the way to go for loading a number of in game or opening positions and having the engine play each one move forward. My question is how to originate an arbitrary file for epd use? I would then be concerned with entering epd and working with game board(s); right now am stuck on the idea of whether epd demands use of (FEN strings?) alternative forms to algebraic notation. Thanks alot.

EPD requires the use of SAN wherever a move appears. There is no provision for long algebraic or other move formats.

The first four tokens in an EPD record are the same as the first four tokens of a FEN record.

With the "new" EPD, the first six tokens in an EPD record are the same as the six tokens of a FEN record.
