Tornado 4.0 available !

Post by Engin »

since last version 3.6.7 some month ago i had not updated, and did not worked on Tornado now i made many changes and improvements (hopeless) in every part of the engine.

After some blitz games vs last version seems the new one have about +50 Elo, it is maybe some points more in longer games.

The files are very huge because i had generated a new book from about 1.5 million master games !.

Ok, go to download and enjoy !

Hi Engin,

test is scheduled for November 07th, 2010 ...
after the still running SWCR-32 tourney.

In the next year I try to add more amateurs in my experimental SWCR-64.

I used your Tornado 3.6.7 x64 in the last weeks for much games. I played vs. Daydreamer 1.75 x64 too :-)

All important UCI options works perfectly in Tornado 3.67 x64. Have a lot of fun with your engine.

If 50 ELO more for version 4.0 your engine have the same playing strength like Ruffian 2.1.0 w32 or Gandalf 6.03 w32 +-25 I think.

Great work, great engine, interesting readme file.
THANKS again!

Personal wish:
Gaviotabases ...

Best
Frank

Hi Graham,
can you give me more details please ?

what is wrong with chess960 ?

with which GUI ? if you using Arena that is knowing about not correct castle rules.

i tested with shredder classic and chess GUI nothing wrong here so far....do Ray setting the chess variant rules option to "castle HAha" for chess 960 ?

Hello Engin,

you indeed seem to have broken something. I've tried the following but all led to Tornado claiming an invalid move:

Code: Select all

(1) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w AHah - 0 1 moves e1g1
(2) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w AHah - 0 1 moves O-O
(3) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w AHah - 0 1 moves g1f1
(4) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w KQkq - 0 1 moves e1g1
(5) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w KQkq - 0 1 moves O-O
(6) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w CGcg - 0 1 moves e1g1
(7) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w CGcg - 0 1 moves O-O
(8) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w CGcg - 0 1 moves g1f1
(9) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w GCgc - 0 1 moves e1g1
(10) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w GCgc - 0 1 moves O-O
As for the error message about the invalid move:

I the cases (1) to (5) were the rook positions shown as a1, h1, a8, h8.
In the cases (6) to (10) they were c1, g1, c8, g8.
Every error message printed the castling rights as KQkq.

I hope this helps.

I think all of the commands you tried are invalid UCI.

Shouldn't they be:
(11) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w CGcg - 0 1 moves f1g1
or
(12) position fen bbrnnkrq/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRNNKRQ w KQkq - 0 1 moves f1g1
?

The former seems to work fine, even if you don't bother to set UCI_Chess960.
The latter does not but should probably be treated as valid in case a GUI is sending X-FEN.
