Bug in Arena HS Books

I must thank the author (Harry Schnapp) for his Great books first

This bug is in HS-Book.abk-7 http://americanfoot.free.fr/echecs/tele ... .abk-7.zip
and also in Arena Main Book 8.0 http://www.playwitharena.com/download/b ... inbook.rar
Of course it could be in several more books

--------------------
[Event "Computer chess game"]
[ECO "D30"]
[Opening "QGD"]
[Variation "Capablanca-Duras Variation"]

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nf3 h6 5. Bg5 *

If I recall correctly, the same bug appeared in Franklin's opening book made before three years so it seems that they've imported the same game game with the altered notation in it....
I've gone far past such errors in my q8.abk making a major clearance till the 20 halfmoves and then adding opening lines and tunning only manualy :!:

Yes it is the same bug. I indicated that in the kingliveson book bug post http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopi ... 629#324629
Franklin did post the offending game.

BTW, I cant find your q8.abk book in rybk site http://www.rybkachess.com/index.php?auswahl=Downloads
Can you give the link ?

P.S. I like your new Avatar. What is it, a bowling ball ?! ;)

I see that the HS-Book.abk-7 has been replaced by HS-Book.abk-8
http://americanfoot.free.fr/echecs/tele ... .abk-8.zip

But still has the same bug !

Hi,

This is not a bug in the book but a an incompatibility between Arena 1.1 and Arena 2.01.

HS-Book.abk is made with and for Arena 1.1. The move 4...h6 has a "0" priority in Arena 1.1. But Arena 2.01 does not meet this so the move 5.Bg5 can be played in Arena 2.01 but not in Arena 1.1.

This was corrected by Harry.

There is a new version on download page.

Regards,
Patrick

Thanks for the corrected version :)

Sorry for the direct file links. Did not see the warning since most of the page is not in english. I think those warnings should be at the top of the page rather than 'hidden' in the middle of it ;)

That book blunder is obviously caused by a wrong notation of Sokolov-Bologan, Reykjavic 2003, which is in a ChessBase database: 4...h6 5.Bg5 Be7 instead of the correct 4... Be7 5. Bg5 h6.

But it could only happen in a comp game if minimum games was set to 1 only, initially. Hence, min. games = 1 is not a good setting. It makes sense that the Fritz GUI defaults are 2 and 3 respectively (normal / optimized). Of course, if many online engine games were played with that book, and collected by others etc. then oher books may be based on more than one (engine-) game with that blunder...

The best way is not to give it a 0 priority, but to delete it....

Hi,

No, it's not the best way. If you delete all moves with priority 0, you delete also all responses to potential traps.

The best way was to assure the compatibility for the books in succesive version. In others Guis it's the case (CB, Shredder).

Patrick
