First, I'd like to give credit to:
Tony Thomas (for all the help on setting up the geeky million command winboard and connecting it to ICC)
Jon Kreuzer - For giving me the permission to run Slowchess.
Charles Roberson - for all the work he has done in the tourney Td-ing.
and others like Zach, Jon, Sam etc with Whom I had a good time talking to.
What's interesting is that despite the huge hardware disadvantage(Just 1 cpu on Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ) and outdated version (nearly 3 years old), Slowchess managed to get the decent score of 3.5/6 and ranked 6th.
Overall, It's been good fun, I'd like to play more online official comp chess events in the future.
Game 1:
Telepath Vs Slowchess:
I haven't actually followed the game, Since this was the first game in the tournament, I have been chatting a lot. But I did notice that in the final stage of the middlegame, Slowchess once had a +1.8 advantage at some point and failed to convert it into a win and only managed a draw.
Game 2: Against Amateur
It was winning from the start, no trouble here.
Game 3: against Crafty
As Hyatt noted, Crafty outsearched Slowchess. It's perhaps due to the hardware advantage of Crafty.
Game 4: Against Buzz
This one has got to be the most interesting game Slowchess had ever played, so open position and intelligent moves on both the sides until Buzz flopped. I'd think that Buzz has vastly improved its game and it was playing at 2250's.
Game 5: Against LearningLemming
Slowchess's worst game. It got outsearched but far worser relative to how it was outsearched against crafty.
Game 6:
Won the game against Arasan.
Arasan ,despite the hardware advantage, had gotten itself into the positional trouble , less space, more undeveloped pieces which eventually led to weak pawn sacrifice. Getting out of opening book early really helped I guess. Arasan had huge book, Slowchess had a compact book.
I will post the games tonight.

Re: SlowChess in ACCA
Please note, LearningLemming was on very similar hardware to Slowchess, so unlike in the crafty game the "outsearched" was because of massive speculative reduction and pruning (which can often backfire) on the part of LearningLemming and not processor speed or multiprocessor support.swami wrote: Game 5: Against LearningLemming

I would claim that the difference in this game was not necessarily search depth, but Slowchess being a bit lackadasical about developing its queenside, and LearningLemming being willing to part with a pawn for an attack to try to exploit that. Thus, it was more of an evaluation function difference.

Re: SlowChess in ACCA
You're probably right, Sam. I can't get past the technical stuffs. Even though we had almost equal hardware, let's not forget that Slowchess was not updated for nearly 3 years.BubbaTough wrote:Please note, LearningLemming was on very similar hardware to Slowchess, so unlike in the crafty game the "outsearched" was because of massive speculative reduction and pruning (which can often backfire) on the part of LearningLemming and not processor speed or multiprocessor support.swami wrote: Game 5: Against LearningLemming

Best Regards.
PS: Suppose CCT is to be scheduled on January 24th and 25th, Would you plan to enter Lemming? I could be a possible pick for Td-ing unless Peter finds someone better.

Sure, I will enter Lemming in CCT. Left to my own devices, I probably won't work on Lemming between now and then, but with Erdo offering to join team Lemming, perhaps he will drag (inspire?) the team to greater heights.swami wrote: PS: Suppose CCT is to be scheduled on January 24th and 25th, Would you plan to enter Lemming? I'm not quite sure what that means... we were typically searching to depth 20-22 in the game against you. Are you saying LearningLemming was going deeper than that???swami wrote:First, I'd like to give credit to:

Re: SlowChess in ACCA
Well, I wasn't around when Crafty played Slowchess, I thought Crafty would probably have searched far lesser despite hardware advantage given the nature of position it had for the most part of the game.bob wrote:

During Lemming game, I was around and I noticed that it did make huge jump in both the eval and the search depth, which I can probably attribute that to less material left on the board very earlier in the game. I thought Lemming belongs to the league of Glaurung, Romichess, TwistedLogic etc in terms of searching the given position very deeper than most other engines out there on the same hardware. I was wrong, as Sam had pointed out. I acknowledged my own error.
