I think the fruit competing in WBEC is a re-write were the engine uses bitboards board representation. It gains about 40% speed from a 64bit compile according to Ryan, so I guess it's OK to say that it's almost close in strength. I doubt that it has surpassed the current public release of Rybka.

No. This data is insufficient to conclude anything about the relative strengths between these two engines.

Yes Terry, but if this was the situation in a round robin tournament in a championship,a difference of 5 points is impressive....

Especially since none of the engines even managed a win against Rybka in the last edition.

Very impressive start by Fruit but he still has to play a lot of good engine : Rybka, Zappa, Shredder, Naum... I expect Fruit to finish 3rd at Ridderkerk.

My pronostic :
1) Rybka
2) Zappa
3) Fruit
4) Naum
5) Glaurung

You're making too much out of it. After 100 tournaments, well that would be a different case.

Yes Tony, that and the fact that in this very particular tournament Fruit was never ahead of Rybka with 5 points....
