Hello Patrick,

Strangely this seems about 50 points less than Fruit 2.3? Do older versions, if they seem to have been be stronger disappear from the UEL list?

Hi Eelco,

Well 50 points are not all. We must see in later tournaments. Fruit 2.3 had also a rating above Spike in the entry tournament.

There is a problem with some engine when the newest version is not so good as a older version. We use always the newest one. With some engine there is not a great problem, two week later a "debug" version is out :)

But with Fruit, it's perhaps a problem. The versions after 051103 are not by Fabien but by Ryan.
We allow only one engine for each author. Fabien prefers the version 2.1 in the UEL and not derivate. So it was no problem.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for you explanation! I was surprised because Fruit 2.3.1 was only supposed to be a bugfix with no major changes. And it seemed to be playing well in Rainer Serfling's tournament, but of course that was a very limited number of games. I am curious what happens after more games.

I understand you don't want to keep all the versions in the list, but maybe for the archives it would be nice to have such a thing? I wonder what would happen to the ratings then, it would probably be necessary to play games against all the older versions like the SSDF is doing. I admit that would be a lot of work!
But with Fruit, it's perhaps a problem.
But now, maybe Ryan has made too many versions to test :) But I am glad we can compare all of them, and 2.3.1 may still prove to be one of the best of them!
I hope that Ryan will have some time for programming his version of Fruit. I like the results with the last version of the Fruit 2.3.1 Mandarin :!: I am sorry if I am to enthusiastic!

The 05/11/03 version from Fabien Letouzey is also a fantastic version in my opinion. I hope Fabien and Ryan don't disappear from the programming stage!
