What a sad day it is.... :(
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Fruit is a chess engine developed by Fabien Letouzey. It was commercially available from September 2005 until July 2007. Now it is freeware and you can download it for free from this site. The development on Fruit by Fabien Letouzey has ceded and it is unlikely to continue. These webpages stay here mainly for archival purposes.
:( :( Sad day indeed..

I don't see anything sad in it. Fabien decided that he has more interesting things to do and he is probably happy with this decision. There is really a life outside the computerchess world. ;-P As a fan of free engines I'm more than happy to be able to have these Fruits in my collection.

Well yes but even that the latest version was about 2 years old I always hoped there will be a new version someday, And that there's going to be more competition than what we have now.

But yes It's nice to have this gift with the free version.

There's so many options in the Beta that it fills my whole screen, Wow! Pawn Duo reminds me of Core Duo. That leaves a room for lots of improvments. I wonder if anyone will manage to come up with better settings. But this will be very tiresome work :) .

all in all we should thank Fabien for his work, Hope it didn't end in ugly note, And wish him good luck whatever he chooses to do next.

When we say sad day, we don't mean sad day for Fabien but for us, since we understand that by releasing the Fruit for free, Fabien does not have the intention to make Fruit stronger. So that is a negative thing.

There is a problem for me with this big screen in Fritz GUI:

I don't see the options that are down and i also don't see the OK/CANCEL/SAVE buttons. I use 1024x768 pixels and i don't want to change this.
Any solutions?

Yes, Its a bit nagging.

I don't think you could do anything except changing the resolution temporarily when you fiddle with the settings.

Maybe someone else know's better!?

It's an older problem BTW.. enough time for Fritz to fix that already if you ask me.. (Im using Fritz 9 so idk if version 10 can handle this properly).

How is fruit free? (http://www.fruitchess.com/files/fruit2. ... nglish.exe) Still asks for the key and is the 14 day trial. Where is the stronger beta? How is the free fruit supposed to be obtained. Is this a a joke or something?

Yes (I had the same problem). Simply switch your screen resolution to 1280*1024 or higher, temporarily. That is big enough to see all settings and the buttons.

Thanks for a great freeware! I wish all participants joy and success with their next projects!
