I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees a post like this and assumes it must refer to Rybka 3 only to find out it's the older version. We all know the older Rybka is very beatable in a tournament - but is Rybka 3?!

Actually, I believe in a tournament Rybka 3 can still be beaten. In tournaments, in 10 games or so anything can happen.

Rybka 3 is out of this world, for it to be beaten something new needs to appear (Naum 4, Hiarcs 13, etc.)

Naum did defeat Rybka 1.5-.5 in Mainz about a month ago on the first day. Rybka is not unbeatable, but to defeat it certainly requires a lot of luck.

I'm talking about normal chess. I could think of a special designed engine that beats Rybka at chess 960, perhaps a big book for all positions would be enough.

You are kidding right? I doubt that anyone currently has the resources to build an opening book for all 960 positions.

But in theory, making a good book for all 960 positions may be easier than making an engine stronger than Rybka 3. It just takes time, but it's straightforward.

I don't believe that Naum team made books that covered most if not all the openings in chess960. I don't think there's such term as "opening" in chess960, was there even one working opening invented?

Using book was illegal in the relevant tournament.
