Confession again, it is you alone who wants to police people's minds, and it has nothing to do with the charter.
Appreciate your honesty, but I don't throw fantacy problems at people and my speculation turns out more often right than not.

Re: when do we get moderator elections ?
The moderators who are currently in place are all heroes of computer chess, worthy of respect.
Others participating in this thread like noobpwnftw and Srdja are also heroes of computer chess in my view.
Bojun Guo calculated and made available the 6 man files created by syzygy and also the online chess databse.
I see that he has donated compute power to TCEC and calculated engine strength for the Impman chess site, made available the online database for chess and Xiangqi and also engaged in valuable discussions in this forum.
Srdja is a pioneer of chess on GPU and shared his work in both open source and discussions as well.
I think it is OK if the moderators are not clones of each other and have differing viewpoints on what they think is important and even what they think should be moderated.
People donating free labor to help keep CCC friendly and comfortable should be what is wanted. And if they have differing views, that is fine. There has been a lot of acid in this forum over the past few years and it has eroded membership.
I think people like "Father" and "chessica" are harmless and we should not cut people off because we are not interested in what they say or we have different viewpoints about what is important.
One of the cornerstones of moderation is that the moderation itself must always be something that can be openly discussed in hopes of improving it.

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

'They' because I'm not expecting some rogue moderator from the de facto 'moderation team', or is it the new normal?chrisw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 2:18 pmnoobpwnftw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 1:36 pm They are just too afraid to have any real election because they think they are smarter than everyone else.
'Charter' is their scapegoat to disqualify anyone who contest their authority, there is nobody other than them who is at the center of the universe so they won't even bother to do the elections at all.
They tried to delay it with technical issues, that didn't last, then they say nobody will qualify, that didn't fly, now they simply won't do it and blaming the entire membership for not knowing better. Not trying to materialize any election in good faith is a big fuck off to everyone on this forum, they just hesitated for so long to finally admit it.
You keep saying “they”, but “they” haven’t decided anything yet, “they” only just started discussions. I, for one have not yet decided anything. Situation unclear.

Problem is that there is no need to play the credential game that some moderator has to achieve X and Y and be superior to other people, he is just a guy who is going to do the moderation things. I also do not think it is because I did X and Y so my opinion is more right than others, or I should dictate how other people think. Clearly there is a situation here.Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 2:53 pm The moderators who are currently in place are all heroes of computer chess, worthy of respect.

Funny is that their hate of other places is not because the lack of moderation or what not, but the lack of the ability to assume some authority.

My point was not that anything more than passion for computer chess is necessary. But that the people having discussions in this thread are all respected, long-time computer chess advocates.noobpwnftw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:06 pm

I suppose that more or less I was actually appealing for a tone of logic over irritation in the discussions.

There you go again with the “they”. I don’t hate other places. I read the SF technical discord. Etc.noobpwnftw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:06 pmProblem is that there is no need to play the credential game that some moderator has to achieve X and Y and be superior to other people, he is just a guy who is going to do the moderation things. But when it comes to the discussions in and around the matter of 'authority', you discover people's true intentions.
People obviously aren't stupid, and like I said the world isn't going to end even with anarchy. This has everything to do with testosterone and here we are.
I just don't see the necessity for a Mr. Know-it-all to qualify the moderation work, and it will be infinitely better if we don't have such a wannabe.

Re: when do we get moderator elections ?
It’s best if moderators are at least reasonable up to date and have demonstrated some sort of technical competence, actually written an engine for example. If not, it’s unlikely they’ll be sufficiently motivated to actually read the important threads and will only come late to any party because of noise generated. Having finger on pulse helps. Differentiating BS from sense, even if written by an alleged troll, also helps. As does fluent English, there've been numerous cases (not mentioning names) where non native speakers clearly persistently misinterpret. That’s not useful. Some minimal educational standards and maturity level. And of course, no displayed narcissism, psychopathy nor Machiavellian tendencies.Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 2:53 pm The moderators who are currently in place are all heroes of computer chess, worthy of respect.
