GAME 64
The first 17 moves mirrored those of the previous game, before Komodo Dragon chose to stop the further advance of the black a-pawn, with 18. a4.
Komodo Dragon then pseudo-sacced a knight on e6 to initiate chances on the kingside, but was pretty much forced into trading queens as a consequence.
Stockfish had to return the knight because it was skewered along a diagonal when threatened.
The rooks all came off as well, and what had looked as though it might be an interesting game, had been whittled down to a double bishops ending with an equal number of pawns per side.
Then the bishops were all traded as well, leaving a drawn king and pawns endgame.

Blackmar–Diemer Gambit
1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3 *
This gambit is considered an aggressive opening, but its soundness continues to be the subject of much debate both on and off the chessboard. Dismissed by many masters on the one hand, and embraced enthusiastically by many amateurs on the other, many consider that Black has good chances of defending successfully and converting the extra pawn in the endgame, while theory suggests that Black has many ways to equalize. As a result, this opening is almost never seen in top-level play.

How do you compare the Deep Blue (hardware), NOT the software to this 16 CPU processing power ?

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
GAME 65
Stockfish gave up a second pawn as well, leaving Komodo Dragon with slower development and with its queen exposed.
With 15. Nb5, Stockfish offered the knight, but Komodo Dragon wasn't going to be sucked into taking it. 15...Rc8 was quite a clever reply, as it pretty much defused white's immediate threats, while remaining a pawn to the good.
However, there were still dangers in the position for black, and Komodo Dragon did well to see them off, all the while with its king stuck in the middle.
After the queens came off, Stockfish decided to go with 29. Rxf7, giving up a piece in order to get its rooks into black's camp.
Interestingly, neither side saw any tangible advantage, and the best that Stockfish could do was to swap off a pair of rooks, and eliminate the black pawns.
A draw, but a game well worth playing through.

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
GAME 66
Stockfish was first to vary from the previous game, with 9...Qd8.
Komodo Dragon's compensation for its two pawn deficit, was quicker development, plus an active and threatening looking position.
After some exact defensive play, Stockfish was able to castle on the queenside, still with the two extra pawns.
But 35. b4 was a clever move from Komodo Dragon, winning the exchange, although the queens also came off.
However, both sides saw the position as dead drawn, and indeed, a draw was the result.

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
Queens Gambit - Chigorin Defense
1. d4 d5 2. c4 Nc6 *
The Chigorin Defense violates several classical principles: Black does not maintain the center pawn at d5, the c-pawn is blocked, and Black must be willing to trade a bishop for a knight. In return, Black gets quick development and piece pressure on the center. Although opening assessments change as improvements are found for each side, the Chigorin is generally considered playable for Black, and it is useful as a surprise weapon against the Queen's Gambit. Alexander Morozevich is perhaps the only modern grandmaster who regularly plays the Chigorin Defense; however, in the 1980s, Vasily Smyslov did employ the opening against Garry Kasparov, achieving a draw.

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
GAME 67
Whilst not a gambit in the truest sense of the word, still an interesting reply to the Queens Gambit.
Out of the opening phase, Komodo Dragon ended up with a rather troublesome knight posted in the heart of white's position.
Stockfish was able to rid itself of the pesky knight, but in the series of exchanges involved, an endgame eventuated, in which each side had two rooks, a knight and five pawns.
It was interesting endgame though, and included Stockfish giving up knight for three pawns, but both sides evaluated it as 0.00, and the game was eventually drawn.

1/2-1/2[/pgn]
Whilst not a gambit in the truest sense of the word, still an interesting reply to the Queens Gambit.
Out of the opening phase, Komodo Dragon ended up with a rather troublesome knight posted in the heart of white's position.
Stockfish was able to rid itself of the pesky knight, but in the series of exchanges involved, an endgame eventuated, in which each side had two rooks, a knight and five pawns.
It was interesting endgame though, and included Stockfish giving up knight for three pawns, but both sides evaluated it as 0.00, and the game was eventually drawn.

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
GAME 68
With 4. e3, Komodo Dragon took the return game on a different course.
However, both sides completed development without any hurdles, and then mass exchanges took us into a late middlegame with queens, rooks and seven pawns each.
Komodo Dragon lined up pressure down the semi-open c-file on the backward c6 pawn, but this was easily defended by Stockfish.
Both sides began shuffling pieces, making the occasional pawn move, and when exchanges eventually occurred, they did nothing to alter the expected draw.

1/2-1/2[/pgn]
With 4. e3, Komodo Dragon took the return game on a different course.

Re: Stockfish 16CPU v Komodo Dragon 16CPU (LTC Gambits Match)
Queens Gambit - Winawer Counter Gambit
1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 e5 *
The Winawer Countergambit ( l.d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3.Nc3 e5 !?) was dismissed by theory until quite recently, when it enjoyed a considerable renaissance in the 1990s.
The Winawer Countergambit challenges White's center and he must choose to accept or decline. If he declines he usually does this in one of two ways. Either the conservative 4.e3 where you can get a comfortable game as Black. Or 4.cxd5 which ends up as an open version of the Accepted Line after 4...cxd5 5.dxe5 Nc6.
The most common response from White is to simply accept the gambit at the first time of asking (4.dxe5). Now you will play 4...d4 kicking the Knight and this pawn becomes the focal point of your operations.
5.Ne4 is often played and you can recover the pawn with 5...Qa5+ 6.Bd2 Qxe5. Your d4-pawn controls important squares in White's camp, c3 and e3. This makes it difficult for him to develop as he would wish.
