Some of the things mentioned in this thread brings back memories. I personally bought my first chess computer which was called Boris. It came in a wooden like cigar box and had 8 LED's which showed what the computer was thinking as it analyzed but only one row at a time you can watch. Then my big purchase was made as soon as its release which was a computer from Fidelity called Prestige!! What a beautiful machine, hand crafted wood with LED's on each square of the chess board. The machine still is 100% functional and although compared to the machines of today is only rated at around 1800 it still plays an excellent game and because of its beauty and can not part from it <S>.

I know both. You are lucky, Prestige IS wonderful! I had an Elite Avantgarde A/S 2100 ELO :)

Hi Alex,

If I may ask what did you pay for the Elite? I remember the Prestige cost me $1,000.00 and back then that was a back breaker <S>. And you know one of the sounds it makes to acknowledge a move even sounds incredible!! <S>

I haven't paid it :D ... I exchanged it with a Kasparov Renaissance + Analyst D module with the Italian Fidelity technician Angelo Besana, that was a fan and an insider like me. But if I remember well, for the consumer the price of base + module was 800 Euro (1600.000 Lire) , so Elite Avangarde A/S price was similar. Instead, Mephisto Exclusive + Roma/Vancouver Module 68000 price was 3.000.000 Lire (1500 Euro)
