In every generic opening book I've ever used, I've always come across at least one bad line.
Why gift an engine a win from a poor automatically played opening variation?
Hi Graham,

While I appreciate the testing of chess engines by CCRL Team and statistics,I would like to ask few questions here:

Doesn't it seem that using a noomen or sedat's opening PGN for engine matches more fair or accurate than making a book or removing bad lines manually?

I'd rather support your idea of removing bad lines than just leaving the engine play with it's own book, get negative evaluation due to the book and lose,as the book mostly doesn't come from the engine author.

We have the option of using opening suites also if we wish.

Poor opening lines are extremely rare in the top notch generic opening books though, so much so that I don't regard it as a problem.

Harry Schnapp's more recent opening books are of very high quality as is Sedat's Perfect 12.32.ctg book and Mike's Xmas2640.abk book (although Mike's one is small and best suited to tournaments rather than matchplay).

Regards, Graham.

What if in 1 opening, both sides give 0.20 eval and in other game with that same opening line and different engines, evaluation you get is 1.00 and -0.78?

As I said, the evaluation must remain above the 0.75 threshold for the entire game for both sides for it not to count.
