I'd imagine so. There are several engines I'm aware of that had only piece-square table evaluations and play at a level of 2000+ Elo on the CCRL. And generally, from what I understand, engines are often rated higher when playing human opponents. So a 2000+ engine should be able to beat a 2000+ rated human player.shahil4242 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 3:49 am Can a chess engine with pesto evaluation beat 2000+ player?

It already got 3098 elo

The more interesting question is if some GM who know the pesto piece square table can use the weaknesses of it to beat it in a chess not by a prepared line(some different engine may play in the first 8 moves of the game against prepared lines).

Indeed, a good game, until 25.Qa3 which is a massive blunder. If 25.Qe1 Bd3 26.Qxe6 the game is probably a draw.shahil4242 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 10:59 am Here is a sample game played me with RofchadePesto against 1900 elo player to see the power of pesto it was a great game. The egine sacrifice queen against rook bishop and at last move white queen will be captured.

Re: Piece/square table challenge
It would be nice if this contest were resurrected. I would like to see MCE's tables compete. And the tables of Sam chess. Sam's are initialized by algorithm at the beginning so I do not know the numbers. However, Sam is elo TSCP 1.81 + 252.

Re: Piece/square table challenge
A fascinating project. I note PeSTO uses Syzygy endgame tablebases. This mean no basic endgame knowledge is needed. I'd be interested to see its strength without tablebases. I suspect it'll be a couple of hundred ELO lower.
