I upgraded my workstation since that doesn't have a lot of installed stuff so even if everything went wrong I wouldn't lose a lot. Everything went fine.

- I stopped Kaspersky till next start
- I deactivated Chessbasse 13 and activated it after upgrade.

I have had no problems - all programs are running ok.
Is this true you've to pay after 1 year after the "free" upgrade ?

No. If you upgrade within a year it is free, if you wait for more than a year to do it then you pay a one-off amount.

Having said that, it does appear that Microsoft's long term strategy might be to try and have Windows on a subscription model.

Sorry to hear that. The option "Notify to Schedule Restart" means that the PC won't re-boot until you tell it to, so that gives the same functionality as W7 and W8. That is the first setting I change after any new Windows install for many years now. Nothing worse than your PC re-booting in the middle of a tournament !!

Also, on the Windows update screen - "Choose how updates are delivered" - I have turned off the option for updates to be delivered from more than one source.

Hi, when will Windows 10 download to my computer automatically once I have reserved it for my PC?

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean, look at the bottom right of your task bar for a mini windows symbol. It may have downloaded already. You will then just need to start the upgrade. It will say, "Get windows 10" when you hover over it.
