Hi Martin,

In my opinion, Thinker 5.0 "passive" is the Tal of chess engines! I was absolutely not surprised to see diagrams as you shown above.. :D

Hi
Thinker is now my favorit engine, 8-) I hope to see that CCRL or CEGT test this fantastic engine against the madness king.... Junior 7, surely it will be a blood bath, it also would be interesting to see it fight against nimzo or gambit tiger, what do you think Graham and Werner, we could see this match in a nearfuture?
Regards :!:

Can't say. Somebody else in CCRL would need to test it against Junior 7 because I have given away my older versions of Junior and other commercials. :(

I just ran engine match vs Junior 7 at 15min+10s, 16 games, in Fritz11 GUI
I used wb2uci for Thinker (passive)
Thinker was +11 -4 =1
I'd upload the games but I don't have any webspace
but the games are phenomenal

with the exception of Three games where thinker was obviously exhibiting a bug and basically played random moves leaving all of its pieces hanging and Junior won 10 moves or so after book finished in those games
So that makes 3 of it's 4 losses attributed to that bug

It looks like Thinker played "Give away" chess in some of the games. Check its lost games. there's something wrong with the set up.

2nd game is particularly fascinating. Great battle, Thanks!

Thanks for those games. It looks like you have uncovered something here.

I tried to run those bad games and I could not get the engine to put out the moves that were made as it came out of the book moves.

Reviewing the code, I just realized that the evaluation hash table is not cleared between games. This table happens to be very succeptible to collisions. I suspect that the engine is retrieving stale evaluation values from the previous game.

If you re-run those three bad games starting from the position where they exit from boot moves, I believe you would see a different set of moves from the Thinker engine (assuming also that you re-start the program before each game).

In Areana, you have the option to reload the engine at the start of each game. You have a similar option in WinBoard.

I could send you a quick fix, if you are interested.
