Very nice game by Novag Diablo, at the moment I am negotiating with Carlos Abreu Jean who is rated 2259 Rapid to play versus Komodo Dragon but he wants $65.00 for winning and $45.00 for drawing.

I apologize up front as I know I am butting in but(t)...what on earth does a few offhand games tell one...and paying this guy seems ridiculous. I am sure there are much better/faster/cheaper ways to gauge reasonable approximations for the new settings.

Actually I can't think of a better test than playing rated opponents with cash prizes for results. I'm sure he could find opponents who would play for smaller prizes, but that's up to him. Of course we need a lot more data than just a few games, but this is certainly helpful.

Without commenting on other posts he has made, I do believe that all games he has posted for engines against FIDE rated, named human opponents are legitimate. None of them have ever said otherwise, one of them I know personally, and both the results and the games seem plausible. It's hard to believe that anyone from a prosperous nation would risk being proven a fraud by naming fake opponents just for a free upgrade of Dragon.

I suppose "anyone" was a poor choice of word; there are of course some people who are dishonest and don't weigh risk vs. reward. But generally they aren't really avid fans of chess or computer chess. Playing chess teaches you to consider the consequences of your actions, though not everyone learns the lesson well.

You probably ignored the fact that the bet became illegal, since he played at least 50 games and only selected the only game that he managed to beat Glaurung. The bet was to play only one game and beat it NOT to practice and play at least 50 games and select one of the winning one.

Note: I do NOT want to discuss an old subject or topic, but you keep bringing old topics and cutting the essential of the original bet, which was to play one single game and to beat it.

Great job on the human like ratings. I played two test games with Dragon 2.6 using the Human personality set at 2000 rating versus Novag Diablo 68000 v.2 level a7 (MessChess) estimated 2040 rating. Time control 40 moves in 2 hours. While I agree with others here that a time delay should be added instead of instant moving. The games had a balanced flow to them with normal errors for the class of players. I will now turn it up to 2040 and see how that goes.

Note that the elo ratings in Dragon are intended to be about right for Rapid (15' + 10") chess, so any properly rated opponent (human or engine) should be a huge favorite against the same elo Dragon at classical (40/2 hours) chess; that's why the readme says to raise the setting by 200 for classical chess. Also note that the ratings are based on default setting (either with NNUE or Use Regular Eval), so if you select a personality it will likely play somewhat weaker than the stated elo. I'm running tests against various CCRL engines in Rapid, but the difficult question is how to convert a CCRL Rapid rating to a human Elo rating playing Rapid. There seems to be a wide range of opinions on this question.

Another question, does the hardware matter? for instance I brought this Lenovo Ryzen 7 with me to the Dom. ReP. and want to know if for UCI_ELO settings at T/C Rapid (15' + 10") having a faster or slower hardware affect the human = Komodo Dragon UC_ELO ratings just like playing at greater T/C than Rapid (15' + 10" , I suppose that using an old Pentium versus this Ryzen 7 could yield a 150 to 250 ratings difference https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-000E-0ND97 ... lsrc=aw.ds
