Incidentally, with NF you can slightly increase the playback speed also (which saves an hour).
I think the show is like a lobster thermidor, to be savored slowly and enjoyed with time, not a bag of doritos that you dip in hot nacho cheese and done with it as fast as you can.

5. Tranquilizers are not generally a performance-enhancing drug.

I looked some things up (students cheating with mental drugs seems meanwhile a common thing for example), I assume Beth takes some kind of Benzodiazepine in the series:

and they do usually sedate but there is a paradoxal effect known:

maybe that's the loop hole for her in the story line.

Her performance didn't improve because of the effects of the drugs, it did because the drugs helped her calm down, which allowed her to visualize the moves and work her magic, later she was able to do that without the drugs.

She wasn't a normal case, think of her as if she had autism or was a savant, except she had something else, and for her kind of people tranquilizers could improve performance, though not directly.

I follow that routine whenever I'm watching/reading any kind of serialized fiction. The pause between episodes/chapters was taken into consideration during the creative stage and I try not to break that pace.
