What happens when you just double-click the executable? can you type the normal uci commands into the console window ? e.g

uci
position startpos
go infinite

A black DOS window pops up then disappears immediately. Same with both (packed and unpacked) files.
Same when I try to run them from under Total Commander. And when I direct the output to a file, the file created is 0 in size.

The same problem here !
With a double-click on .exe file I obtain not a console mode but only a new file : mediocre-04-jet-ja.unpacked.usg
Take a look please :



And I have on my computer Java 6 update 29. Java site says all are OK with my installation !

What to do ?

Here is a 'Launch4J' executable version. You will need Java installed and probably 'Inbetween' too if running it in Fritz gui.

Yes, this provides the DOS window and display uci parameters, then uciok.

Tried to install under Shredder 12 but it said it was not a UCI engine. Maybe inbetween is needed there too, although I don't know what it is and what it does.

You need to use the program 'InBetween' - http://home.online.no/~malin/sjakk/.

Edit InBetween.ini with the path of your mediocre install e.g

Inbetween.exe/inbetween.ini need to copied to the /jre6/bin or /jre/7/bin folder of your java installation. Install inbetween.exe as a UCI engine.
