Ha, finally I have some webspace to post a screenshot.
(Sorry about the width. I don't know why this forum software
wants to leave so much open space right of a picture.)

Image

XBoard on my Ubuntu system, with the engine-output, move-history and eval-graph window open. My preferred layout leaves some open space for the game list, if there is one.

And one made by Miguel (stolen from the other thread.)

Image

XBoard while using the Engine #1 Settings dialog to configure the engine, using custom bitmaps for the pieces.

Just for the record, the pixmaps are alpha red marble from this site:

Perhaps some of the new dialogs also deserve a screenshot.
Miguel already showed the engine settings dialog for his WB engine.
This dialog already existed since XBoard 4.3.16, but I now improved
the layout of it a little, so that it does not look as cluttered as it did before.
For a UCI engine you would also see the Polyglot options in this dialog.

Image

Engine #1 Settings dialog for Glaurung, which supports many UCI options, running under Polyglot 1.4.53b.

Also new is the file-selector dialog. Old XBoards used to provide only a
single-line file-name type-in box. The new dialog (ported from Ghostview)
lists the contents of three levels of directories simultaneously, from which
you can then pick a file by clicking it.

Image

XBoard finally has a decent dialog to browse for files.

The latest WinBoard alpha compiled from this code base can also be obtained from http://hgm.nubati.net . But it is not very different from the stable version that can be obtained from WinBoard forum, as WinBoard already used to have these features for years.

The only really new feature in this version is variation support: in edit-game or analyze mode you can play a new variation starting from an existing game (this was already possible), but you can then use "Revert" to go back to the original game, with the variation you just played out added as comment to the move from the branching point. The latter is new, and offers similar functionality to what you can do in examine mode on an ICS.

There were a number of bugfixes, though.

Wow, thanks for posting this!

I wish these were the default pixmaps for Xboard.

Xboard did have copy and paste for a long time already, but it was working according to the old X standard, which copied the current selection, and not the clipboard. Some newer software (e.g. gedit) was not able to work with this, as it ignored the selection completely. So we changed it in version 4.4.1 to use the new standard, where you paste and copy from the clipboard. The old behavior is still availabe through the option -pasteSelection true|false.

Ok, I can copy and paste positions.
But I am not able to copy from engine output to clipboard.
Is there a possibillity to do that?
