Many use the idea "if ahead, exchange pieces but not pawns, if behind, exchange pawns but not pieces." In rook odds games, if you are behind you probably don't want to exchange anything until you can whip up some sort of attack.LucenaTheLucid wrote:Move 9...Bxc3

Would a human rated about the same strength as the Saitek Prisma be able to overcome rook odds against a 2700+ machine?
I think I may try this tonight. Handicap Shredder 11 to 2400 or so and give myself rook odds. I guess that I am around 1400 ELO.
Also do any programs do something like "If the score for my side is less than -1 then avoid exchanging pieces". After thinking about it I guess that would be called a "Contempt Value"

Prissy Exchanges down and at the same time wrecks the pawn cover should White 0-0..perhaps this will discourage Movei from castling all together(which mignt not be a bad idea actually) ..LucenaTheLucid wrote:Move 9...Bxc3
9..Bxf3
As Movei is about to make her 10th move could you please post the updated PGN to this point as well as indicating Movei's Eval of the position after her 10th move?
i will post Prissy's eval after her 10th as well
Good Housekeeping Regards

the Prisma seems to be broken

it wont power up
no display and it will not respond to any key presses
probably a blown voltage regulator or something
i tried every thing i know of
resetting the computer...different power supply...batteries
nada
this is always an issue with these old computers
thankfully the Prisma is not a rare computer and it should not be too hard to find another one
i have Pm'd Luis and informed him i will RESIGN the game if i cant get the computer to work within 24 hours of his move
Disgusted Regards

Steve I am not so worried about the game. I know those old units are expensive and hard to replace.
However you wish to continue will be fine with me and Movei.

Re: Movei00_8_438 vs. Saitek Prisma QR odds
the only alternative to Resigning is for me to continue the game with another computer close to the Prisma in ratingLucenaTheLucid wrote:Steve I am not so worried about the game. I know those old units are expensive and hard to replace.

i do have the Novag Jade which is a small hand held portable
it is rated 1744 on the Selective Search Dedicated Chess Computer rating list(Current issue) which is about 10 Elo Higher then the Prisma:

Ill check the Prisma tomorrow morning and if its still dead then ill probably resign ..
doesn't seem fair to you or Movei for me to continue the game with a different computer while on the other hand it dosent seem right for me to just resign given the time and effort you have already put into the game
its your call Luis

I say mush on. I doubt the moves will make that much difference. Who's to say really? I think if one will make a huge blunder, the other probably will as well.

Still dead as a doorknob
last year when i operated the R30 in the forum game i remember i got a strange VECTOR ERROR in the display unit and the computer froze
thankfully ..after unplugging it for about an hour it came back to life and i was able to continue the rest of the game with no problems
The Prisma is toast
R.I.P. Regards
